Wardrobe Dos And Don'ts With Celeb Stylist Phillip Bloch

    image
Adriana Nova on Sep 24, 2009 2:24 PM PDT
Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch has no wish to see you in head-to-toe neon. "Please do not wear pop colors as an entire outfit, I beg of you!" he warns, the command made less severe by the winking cheekiness in his tone. "A hot pink gown could be a hot pink mess!" It's his patented way of giving fashion direction with honesty and a dose of sassy sugar that has made Bloch one of the premiere celebrity stylists in Hollywood with a client roster that reads like a Hollywood honor roll. Halle Berry? Check. Jennifer Lopez? Here! Drew Barrymore? Present. And the A-list goes on and on. In my recent interview with Bloch over New York Fashion Week, we also talked about the fashion "dos" every woman wants to have in her closet. His favorites? "I love the big, comfy boyfriend jacket but then it's all about the silhouette--you want something slim and sexy underneath. You do not want to be in something baggy under there." What else? "I think the little bump shoulder is great, definitely the statement necklace, and I much like a high boot. I'm not the biggest fan of the little shoe-boot, especially when you wear it with a skirt and you see that big gap in-between [the ankle and the top of the shoe]--it cuts the leg!"

Phillip also shared with me the best designers we're not wearing: "I'm a big fan of Zac Posen. He gets the hype but not everyone gets to wear him. Also Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Erin Fetherston, Thakoon, Rodarte--and if you can't buy their clothes, look at what they're doing and get inspired by them!" Phillip also gave me the skinny on the concept of "fat-free dressing" using Flexees, Maidenform's affordable shapewear brand (which Phillip dished is what Lady Gaga wears when she performs). "They've made a lot of the pieces so you can actually wear them as outerwear, too, and they come in great fashion colors." And Hivers, if Phillip's left you wanting more personal styling advice, look no further: enter to win a Red Carpet Makeover by Phillip from Flexees and Star Magazine. Check out more on Phillip at his site and remember to stay away from monochromatic neon (you've been warned).

Stylehive's Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet Report!

Despite various teleprompter mishaps, the overuse of the Kanye interruption joke, and the Sarah McLachlan-induced sob fest, the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards still managed to be hotter than hot (both literally and figuratively -- apparently the weather was beyond sweaty)! While 30 Rock and Madmen took home the night's biggest prizes (surprise, surprise), everyone was a winner on the red carpet (well, nearly everyone). Blake Lively looked like her typical glamazon self in a gorgeous red gown with a seriously plunging neckline and Kim Kardashian's dress was so skintight, she reportedly had to be sewn into it (it was worth it)! Even primetime's funny gals like Alyson Hannigan and Jenna Fischer glammed it up Cinderella-style in dazzling strapless floor-length numbers. Flip through the slideshow to see how some of TV's leading ladies rocked the red carpet last night! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Tried & Tested: The Best Cotton Tee On The Market

    image
The Frisky on Aug 25, 2009 5:28 AM PDT
Jeans always get front and center when it comes to icons of American style. But everyone knows the silent star is really the T-shirt. Where would James Dean, Marlon Brando, or Michael Jackson have been without the super simple, super sexy white t-shirt? There are several elements that elevate the standard tee: color, graphics, fit and, most importantly, fabric. The latter is what makes Market tees so amazing. The recently debuted line believes in simplicity. So they limit their collection to a variety of plain, cotton t-shirts that still manage to be infinitely comfortable and sexy. Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively and Lindsay Lohan have all been snapped while wearing them. What drives them to the brand is what will make you fall in love, too: buttery fabrics, rainbow colors, and the perfect fit. We got to test-run these tees and got more compliments than we can count. They're perfect paired with jeans and sneakers or a chic mini-skirt and heels-- and the prices are equally attractive at $24 to $35. Click over to our friends at The Frisky to check out Market's latest styles and colors and find out where to buy them online!

He's Just SO Into You: Sophisticated Looks That'll Get You ...

There's a fine line when it comes to your dating intentions: you're either dating for fun, or you're looking for a relationship. Your intentions have their way of showing up in your presentation on date night -- namely, with your outfit. Sure, we've all got a closet full of strapless-this and hooker-boot that, but sometimes a girl's got to have something that says she wants to be treated like a lady. A man can go gaga for the midriff showing, overdone makeup-wearing, cleavage-popping hooker wannabe all he wants, but when you want to lure him in without giving him the wrong idea, there's a whole new closet of options to explore. Instead of taking cues from girls that have made careers out of being the "one-night-stand" (we won't name any names), try getting his attention in a way that doesn't imply you want a rag-doll romp-and-toss treatment. With a little more class and a little less, well, ass, he'll be into you in no time. Inspired by the release of "He's Just Not That Into You," we came up with a few outfit ideas, sure to guarantee the opposite- at least for awhile! See them all in the slideshow!

A Night Of Fashion And Film At The Golden Globes!

    image
Kristin on Jan 12, 2009 1:25 PM PST
This year, the Golden Globes featured one win for the beloved Heath Ledger, two wins for a tearful Kate Winslet, a handful for the spirited "Slumdog Millionaire," and a hilarious acceptance speech by 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan. But of course, who can forget the fashion? So we've rounded up some photos of film and TV's glamorous stars in case you missed the show and want to see what everyone was wearing. Eva Mendes donned a white silk Dior gown with a bold necklace from Van Cleef & Arpels private collection. Drew Barrymore channeled Marilyn Monroe in Dior Haute Couture custom made by John Galliano and a platinum bob. And Olivia Wilde wore a pretty ruffled Reem Acra dress in violet. Want to see more?
