Easy Halloween Costume Ideas From American Apparel!

    image

Love them or hate them, American Apparel is probably one of the best places to get your basics. I wear their t-shirts almost everyday but I generally stay away from their more body-conscious (and body baring!) clothes. However, I've found that Halloween is the best time to let loose and go for something you wouldn't wear on the regular basis. American Apparel has a Halloween costume guide every year that includes old standbys like an aerobics getup, Grecian goddess or cabaret dancer. One idea that really stood out for me was dressing like your grandparents and then I also brought together two costume ideas that are more simple and cost-effective. Go as a figure skater with a short dress and leg warmers or as a Parisian in a striped boatneck shirt, skinny pants, and a beret that's worthy of landing you on our favorite street style websites! Check out my slideshow to see how you can win best Halloween costume by going all American (Apparel).

Rock Out Like Rihanna For Halloween!

This Halloween, I thought our favorite Barbadian songstress Rihanna would be a great inspiration for a costume. What better time to unleash the diva in you and get adventurous with your clothing? Rihanna is always wearing something experimental, fashion forward and never cookie cutter. My costume inspiration for Rihanna is from a tour she did last year which is a little less daring than her current outfits, but you'll be surprised at how many pieces of clothing that's already in your closet you can use! Start off with a shiny silver bustier or corset like the one I found from Charlotte Russe. Add a pair of liquid leggings or faux leather pants, leather boots, black fingerless gloves and a few chunky silver cuffs and you're set! If you don't have Rihanna's signature sleek short black hair, grab a wig and style it appropriately. Take a peek at my slideshow to see how you can become Rihanna (without all the drama, of course). Best part is, nothing in my slideshow is over $50! Photo credit: PR Photos

Channel Your Inner Monster This Halloween With "Where The ...

For a book with only 9 sentences, Where the Wild Things Are sure is making a splash in the fashion world and beyond. Published in 1963, the book has been read by generations and now we get to enjoy a live action feature length movie directed by Spike Jonze this week. Needless to say, the book and movie provides some great inspiration for a Halloween costume. Between the furry monster suit Max wears and the other frightening (yet cute) monsters, it's easy to channel your inner "wild thing." Even my favorite boutique Opening Ceremony created a capsule collection based on the characters of the movie. But chances are you've already got a fur vest or even some furry boots, so a costume fit for any wild monster is already lurking in your closet! Just add a fur skirt or find some faux fur at a craft store, add a homemade gold crown, and you're ready to go. Take a look at my slideshow that will have you ready for a "wild rumpus" this Halloween!

    10 Fabulous Frocks Under $50!

I'm definitely loving this new trend of rompers and jumpsuits. Anyone who knows me at all will tell you that I'm borderline obsessed. But really, the infatuation stems beyond to a love for all one-pieces. The most familiar, most versatile and most comfortable one-piece of all time? That would have to be the well-loved dress. Dresses are feminine no matter the style - casual jersey knit for the weekend with friends, or silk sateen for that cocktail party you've been planning for - and they are easy to dress up or down. They're convenient because you don't need to take time trying to decide which top goes well with which bottom and, although they take mere seconds to put on, they make you look pretty and put-together. A dress can be appropriate for almost any situation so check out the slideshow for our 10 favorites under $50!

Girls' night out coming up? Hooray! Get ready for some good old-fashioned gossip, strong mixed drinks (mojitos or caipirinhas are mine for this season!) and a fabulous night out with your best friends. I love to up my fashion ante, especially when it's just the girls. It might be time to finally spring for the uber-cute Marc Jacobs "Love Story" clutch, which would be perfect with this Black Halo Cold Shoulder Minidress! Or I could go for a pop of bright with this gorgeous silk satin "Fiore" clutch from J. Crew with the adorable Rachel Pally "Carmela" dress. Check out my slideshow for lots of other cute girls' night out options!

What to Wear: Meeting His Parents!

You've been with your guy for a while, and things are getting serious. His parents are coming to visit. He wants you to meet them. Try not to panic. You're charming! Guy knows that you'll wow them. Now, to decide what to wear! A few recommendations: wear something flattering, but not revealing. Don't show too much cleavage or too much leg, but hey, work your assets all the same. Choose a classic style like Calvin Klein's Laser Cut Ruffle Shirtdress. Something that will flatter your curves, but also says, hey I'm a good girl and I would make a great mother to your grandkids. If you've got a killer dress already, I recommend one pop of interest and color with your jewelry. Wearing something like Kenneth Jay Lane's Garden Cuff is great because if all else fails, it's a conversation piece. Check out my slideshow for lots of options to meet his parents!
