Go Rock 'N Roll Glamorous With Heavy Metal Eyes

    image
Pauline Montupet on Jun 16, 2009 4:20 PM PDT
The spring runway shows left me thoroughly confused with all the different makeup trends. From bright colors to harsh 80's eyes, natural looks to metallic, Spring '09 brought us a lot of variety and lots of options. But by far the easiest and most flattering look was the metallic eye. Perfect for day or night, it can subtly sparkly and natural or sexy and smoky. One of my favorites was the wide-eyed look at Donna Karan. A beige to natural palette in gold and silver on eyelids paired with mile-long lashes gave the models an upscale yet natural look. Adding a warm coppery gold in the creases and a dusting of lighter shadow in the inside corners makes the eyes appear larger and more awake. When your eyes are sparkly like a disco ball, be sure to keep the rest of the face neutral. A touch of foundation and a terracotta blush is just enough to make skin look flawless and perfect. Finish it all off with a swipe of nude lipstick or gloss. The look will pair perfectly with all the beige and metallic clothes that dominated the runways. Take a look at the slideshow for some products that can help you perfect the look yourself!

Dressing In Nude From Head To Toe

There is nothing more chic than dressing in one tone from head to toe. It used to be all black, but spring's new fresh trend is head to toe nude. Soft neutrals dominated the runways in the spring shows. Chloe and Stella McCartney's shows were both an ode to pale flesh tones, Donna Karan gave us warm nudes that evoke suntans and sandy beaches, even the man of darkness Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy showed beige clothing and buttery pale leather accessories. Wear the look head to toe with a sexy Jay Godfrey fringe dress and a pair of nude booties; top it all off with an ivory or nude sweater. But if you're feeling more adventurous beat the evening chill with the leather jacket in a non-traditional nude. Madison Marcus' 'Anthem' jacket would finish of the look perfectly or look great over a black outfit for just a touch of nude. Pale accessories are also a great way to dabble in the trend; nude or beige shoes give your legs that long endless look. A light handbag is a nice alternative and just as versatile as black or brown. Go a little or go all the way, but whatever you do, make sure you have a few nude pieces in your spring wardrobe. Click the slideshow to see everything you need to go nude for spring.

A Happy Fashion Future at NY Fall 2009 Fashion Week

Bare legs & open toes in the depths of winter. Fur during the August swelter. Teetering, towering heels regardless of the occasion. Fashionistas are not known for being the most practical of creatures, however the same can't be said about fashion designers this season. "New York designers are not out of touch," Jeffrey Kalinsky, director of designer merchandising for Nordstrom, recently told WWD about his impressions of the recent Fall 2009 Fashion Week, which most insiders unanimously agree was dominated by standout collections from Michael Kors, Thakoon, Donna Karan, Jason Wu, and Marc Jacobs. "I was impressed overall with what they turned out...a lot of product that looks really good and prices that reflect the intrinsic value that the customer is going to be looking for. These are tough times, no question about that, and that business is challenging. For me, it just means being a razor-sharp editor and finding the best New York has to offer."

I can't think of a more festive precursor to Valentine's Day than a red-carpeted runway show graced with an array of gorgeous crimson gowns -- all for the sake of healthy hearts! The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection, fashioned by a throng of top designers and shown off by a number of notable female celebrities and athletes, has become the traditional New York Fashion Week fall-preview opener with its collaborative and charitable fashion show aimed to help promote heart disease awareness. The wide variety of stunning ruby-hued gowns and cocktail dresses, designed by the likes of Carmen Marc Valvo, Nicole Miller, Betsey Johnson, Donna Karan, and Max Azria (and many more!), were worn by a parade of proud women celebrities including Katie Couric, Amanda Bynes, Jennie Garth, and Olympic gold medalists Nastia Liukin and Kristi Yamaguchi, who all set their nerves aside to strut down the ramp for the cause. Even attendees who came without a Valentine found it difficult to not give in to the occasion and fall in love with the stunning sheaths!

Colors: ruby reds and deep crimson
Silhouettes: all styles from tiny tube dresses to flowing evening gowns!

Which People's Choice Awards Look Gets Your Vote?

The 35th Annual People's Choice Awards were held this past Wednesday at LA's Shrine Auditorium and to be honest, I tuned in for about 10 minutes before I got distracted by something on the Food Network (sorry Queen Latifah!). But I definitely logged on later to see what everyone wore because everyone knows that the stars' outfits are the real reason we all tune in anyway. I wasn't exactly blown away by any of the looks- then again, the PCAs are a more casual affair- but there were a few dresses worth noting, namely the ones worn by Carrie Underwood, Jessica Stroup, Olivia Wilde, and Marisa Tomei. I want to know which one is your favorite! Photo credit: PR Photos
