Hot In The Hive: Olive Poop Bags For Your Pups

    image

If you've grown up in a dog friendly city like I have, you know that some dog owners let their dogs do their business, only to walk away without cleaning up. There have been many close calls to to soles of my shoes but I'm always thankful for the people who do clean up after their dogs. Since I've been on a eco-friendly mindframe, I've been thinking about all the plastic bags out there. Did you know that US dogs produce enough waste to fill an 800-foot-tall football field every year and plastic bags can take over 100 years to decompose? We've been using reusable bags when we go shopping to keep plastic bags out of the landfills, so why not change your poop scooping habits too? That's why dog owners should check out the olive poop bags! They're made of corn starch and vegetable oil which makes them biodegradable, and they'll compost in about 40 days. Fido may be man's best friend, but use these bags and you're well on your way in being Mother Nature's best bud!

The recent economic turmoil has many of us downgrading to smaller apartments, and in turn desperately trying to make the most out of the limited space in our newly cramped quarters. If your canine companion has also had to suffer with you in your sardine can of a sublet and has been forced to relinquish his beloved comfy crate for the sake of space-saving, the pet-loving decor mavens at DenHaus are here to the rescue to provide your pooch pal a comfy little den while at the same time helping you save room and keep up the chicness of your new pad. The BowHaus dog crate not only serves as a tucked-away little napping place for your pint-sized pup, but with its sleek powder-coated steel design and trendy star-burst detail, it also doubles as an end table, bed-side stand, or for use wherever you see it functioning best! It appeals to both your doggie's desire for his own hideaway and your own need to conserve room and equip your place with some modern decor! Get one for own place at the BowHaus store, where you can even "furnish" the tiny den with a sleeping mat!

The Best Gifts For Pets (And Their People Too)!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Dec 17, 2008 12:18 PM PST
Shopping for my pets is not as easy as it sounds (for dog #1, the toy/bed/blanket has to be indestructible, and for the dog #2, well, whatever it is has to be something that dog #1 can't steal. They're just the cutest handful you've ever seen), but shopping for pet owners is even harder! You have to please the pet and the owner, and since pet owners can be a discerning breed in and of themselves, you may never know if dear Sparky the Yorkshire Terrier ever does get the peanut butter prize from the inside of his shiny new Buster Food Cube. Sigh.

So I've compiled a list of gifts that are sure to please even the most neurotic pets and owners. From ingenious necessities (Bon Ton pick-up baggie dispensers) to furball frivolity at its finest (a Sniffany & Co. plush toy), you're bound to find something that the pets on your list- and their humans- will love. Home Poll: Spoiled Rotten Pet "Necessities"

The creativity of some people never ceases to amaze me. Pet owners in particular seem to have an extraordinary ability to conjure up remarkably inventive ways to spoil their furry (or scaled) little friends. And businesses are quickly catching to this growing consumer trend. Boutique pet stores have sprouted up seemingly everywhere, offering unique arrays of accessories and necessities with the pampered pet in mind. But nothing can compare to what is now available online- especially in the Hive. Some of the items I've come across are too cute, while other finds are a bit more, huh? really, for the cat? But since I'm all for creativity, I've compiled three of these inventive pet products straight from the Hive.
