Jean Paul Gaultier Is Next Up For Target!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Oct 21, 2009 7:19 AM PDT
Jean Paul Gaultier is doing a Target collection, reports The Cut via WWD. The over-the-top designer's collection will be available at more than 250 Target stores across the country and Target.com on March 7 through April 11. Following Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui, Gaultier is the third established designer to do a collection for the mass retailer under the Designer Collaboration series. His chosen muse? The American woman, "celebrating the forces of style both past and present in American pop culture," a Target spokesperson says. I remember being thrilled by Gaultier's risque designs as a young girl (Madonna's cone-bra corset comes to mind). My mother's dislike of his iconic female/male perfume bottles only made me want them more; both still sit prominently displayed in my glass bathroom cabinet. This Frenchman holds a special place in my heart so I look forward to what he'll bring to Target audiences.

Celeb Favorite: The Catherine Malandrino "Leggero" Draped Blouse

For Hollywood's most stylish stars red carpet originality is a must, but sometimes that can get tricky when a designer creates something so fabulous that everyone wants to be seen it. Feast your eyes on this gorgeous black and nude tulle "Leggero" draped blouse from the Malandrino Resort Collection 2010 that Gabrielle Union, Mary J. Blige, Estelle and most recently Kerry Washington have all been spotted in. The major appeal of this blouse is that it's ultra luxe and trendy without the wearer looking like they tried too hard. "The layers of jersey tulle over silk makes clothes that whisper, the draping above a fitted cut allows movement, and the transparency in subtle tones speaks about understated femininity," says New York designer Catherine Malandrino (pictured below far left), who dresses stars like Mary J. Blige and Estelle regularly. If you feel fashion copycatting is the biggest form of flattery, then don't be afraid to rock this sexy blouse too! The Leggero top, $950, is currently available at Catherinemalandrino.com. See more at Essence!

Kristin Brady redefines what it is to be sexy with her clothing line KTG. Kristin does not employ methods of western tailoring such as zippers, buttons, or hook and eye. Instead, KTG utilizes an approach akin to sculpture. All Kristin's designs are handmade in her California studio. Organic and asymmetrical, the Apron Dress is sure to be the right choice for dinner and the theater. If you are looking to go the sexy route, then the Brown with Applique piece is definitely your dress of choice. Check out the slideshow to see more of Kristin's work.

It's fun creating different outfits at Looklet, a brand new styling studio where you can combine every piece in the fashion collection to mix, match and create your personal looks. All clothes are real, selected by stylists, from real designers. The site is based in Stockholm so you'll find Swedish designers like Ann-Sofie Back and brands like H&M. I've only created two looks so far. Have you tried it out yet? (If not, watch out -- you might end up spending the whole day on it!) The Coveted Loves Mahtab Azimi's Little Black Dress

Everyone needs a comfy little black dress in their wardrobe arsenal. This much I know... and I have quite a few in my closet to back it up! Yet, like black shoes, there never seems to be enough! When designer Mathab Azimi sent me this lovely Micah sheered tunic dress for a review, I just couldn't be happier. The Micah dress is made with a poly-rayon blend which has kind of a jersey feel, only softer and with more movement.

The Pros: For $69.95 this dress is really well-made. The dress is very adjustable, with a tie belt and even the sleeves are customizable with ties, and can easily be worn with bows showing in the front or back. The length of the dress will adjust according to how much you pull up the top, and you can make it shorter in front, longer in back, mini or knee length. I really liked the gathering which gives it a nice Grecian effect.
The Cons: The only real gripe I have is that it's dry clean only. If I had to pick something else, it would be that the flip side of adjustability also means that sometimes you need to adjust the dress during the day, but not much.

All in all, it's a great dress and since it's done by an independent designer, the price is more than reasonable. I definitely would recommend it! Check out The Coveted for more fashion reviews!

Lindsay Lohan Working for Emanuel Ungaro?!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Sep 14, 2009 7:25 AM PDT
Lindsay Lohan finally has a job... in fashion! And we hope it will involve more than leggings and self-tanner. We're not really sure how we feel about Lindsay Lohan's fashion sense (errr), but apparently Emanuel Ungaro trusts her as he just allowed her to sign on to his company as artistic advisor. One thing is for certain, Ungaro is going to get a whole lot of attention having Lindsay working for them. And Emanuel knows this -- even if we don't love it, we'll definitely be paying attention to it. We can't wait to see how the new Ungaro line looks. Do you think people will take well to it or do you think they'll avoid anything bearing Lindsay's name? Get more details over at Limelife!
