Tread Lightly And Sling On A Small Satchel

    image
Amber Fijolek on Nov 24, 2009 2:23 PM PST
Big purses have their moments: they're great for beaches, books and boho looks. There are, however, more simplistic ways of toting around all your stuff -- and, let's face it, not look like a bag lady. Though our clutches are a great way to shed the extra pounds of bag, they're not good for much more than a phone, credit card, and lip gloss. A small satchel is somewhere in between, is straight to the point about what it can fit, and because of its size, is cute in its own kiddie-sized travel tote kind of way. Click through a sampling of small satchels in this slideshow and find the perfect sized sack for all of your toting needs!

Lily Allen Shows Off Chanel's Coco Cocoon Collection

For Fall/Winter 2009 Chanel is introducing the new Coco Cocoon Collection, a line of casual handbags and accessories made out of washed lambskin or quilted nylon. The puffy reversible bags reveal the signature quilted Chanel pattern when turned inside out. Combining style with practicality, "Coco Cocoon" handbags smoothly transition from everyday city life to relaxing weekend getaways. The line includes a range of handbags, travel bags and small leathergoods. Lily Allen, portrayed as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, is the face of the collection, and I have to say, the ads almost tempt me to splurge on the sleeping bag lookalikes! Handbag To Crave: Tod's D-Bag Bauletto

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Sep 2, 2009 7:21 AM PDT
There's something alluring about Tod's redesigned D-Bag for fall. First launched in 1997 and carried by Princess Diana, the D-Bag Bauletto is a classic handbag must have. Its rich leather design with contrast stitching has two top handles and an adjustable messenger strap. The ubiquituous Tod's oval logo is missing here and that's a good thing. Its simplicity and understated luxury will stand the test of time and trends. $1,445 and already sold out at Saks Fifth Avenue.

The Salvatore Ferragamo brand is well known for well-made and stylish shoes, but one should take a closer look at their amazing selection of handbags. Add a dash of drama to your daytime ensembles or evening outfits with these fabulously feminine Salvatore Ferragamo shoulder bags! The Mini Vara Capra ($1550) and Mini Vara Capra Small ($1490) are shoulder bags with the added sweetness and drama of a grosgrain bow on the chain and leather straps. The bags are both made out of leather but the pleating detail gives it the look of satin-y fabric. Both bags are accented with nickel hardware and feature adjustable shoulder straps. These Salvatore Ferragamo bags are such a feast on the eyes! They'll work with a daytime look of jeans, a cute blouse and sandals. They'll easily transition into nighttime when paired with your little black dress and smart coat. Want to know more about these amazing Ferragamo bags? Click over to our friends at Splendicity!

Khirma Eliazov: The New "It" Bag?

    image

I firmly believe that the best fashion finds happen randomly-- especially when you're not looking for them. So it was that I milled around a Vogue fashion week party several months ago and started talking to a stylish woman who carried one of the most beautiful and unique handbags I've seen in a while. When I inquired, Khirma Eliazov replied that she'd designed the bag herself as part of her eponymous line of leather accessories. She then invited me to her fashion week trunk show, where I proceeded to be completely bowled over by further pieces rife with her signature top-quality leather and delightful attention to detail. Erma, as she's known, credits her first job out of college as an accessories assistant at Mademoiselle with what she laughingly calls her "obsession" with accessories. After stints as a stylist, brand manager, and freelance market editor for, among others, Harper's Bazaar, Elle Accessories, and, yes, Vogue, she decided to follow her heart and create a collection that is "beautiful, timeless, different, and, most importantly, functional. Everything about this line surrounds luxury at an attainable price point." Cited as a designer to watch by WWD and toted by fashion 'it' girls like Behati Prinsloo, check out the Khirma Eliazov slideshow to see just why she's one to keep an eye on, and visit her site for more details!
