Hot In The Hive: Bubble Necklace By Marina and Susanna Sent

    image

I recently went to a beautiful garden wedding where the bride looked radiant in white and the bridal party and groomsmen where matching in verbena green accessories. It was a pretty informal affair, with the groom strumming a song on his acoustic guitar as the bride walked down the aisle. This non-traditional ceremony ended with all the attendees blowing bubbles instead of throwing rice or confetti. I haven't seen the pictures yet, but I'm sure that the bride and groom looked amazing with bubbles surrounding them. When I found the Bubble Necklace at the MoMA store recently, I realized I could get the same look without getting drenched in soapy solution (or hitched!). Made of Murano glass beads, the beads look like they're effortlessly floating on your decolletage. While they're harder to pop, be careful not to break any of the glass bubbles!

    Price: $103.50-$115

Hot In The Hive: iPhone App Coasters

Those of the slightly younger set may not know this, but before the iPod and Mac laptops, Apple was on the brink of being obsolete. They were associated with the huge, loud computers in the school library that you could only do research on or else the librarian would throw her glasses at you. The iPod is maybe the greatest comeback product in history. It not only brought Apple back from the brink, but ricocheted them to number one in technological gadgets. Now you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't have at least one Apple product laying around the house. I've had an a few of the iPod variation, but I'm actually lusting over the iPhone. Well, those at Apple must have felt bad for people like me who would love to jump on the iPhone band-wagon but, for whatever reason, have not. There are now iPhone app coasters that I can also put on my table, and for the fraction of the price! These coasters come in a set of 16 "apps" and are made of MDF plywood wrapped in a vinyl and varnish. A rubber back keeps it from moving around and they're washable and reusable! Ok, so they don't actually allow you to pull up the weather in Tunisia or give you a recipe for "Easy Chicken Bake" with just a click of a button, but they are awesome and fun! At $60 for the entire set, these make a great gift for the i-Aficionado or for those like me who just want to rub elbows with this elite i-Group!

Price: $60.00 for set of 16

Sea of Shoes' Jane Aldridge Designs Capsule Collection For ...

    image

She's got a shoe collection that celebrities would surely covet, a blog that brings in tens of thousands of hits per day, and the styling ability of a seasoned fashion editor. Oh, and she's still in high school. Texas teenager Jane Aldridge chronicles her daily fashion adventures in her blog, Sea of Shoes, and while she makes buying a pair of Margielas sound as simple as stopping at Starbucks, her refreshingly whimsical tone and captivating photo shoots keep us coming back for more. We're not the only ones, though- Teen Vogue has featured her more than once, Kanye's sent her an email saying he's a fan, and now Urban Outfitters has helped her design a capsule collection, J. Aldridge by Sea of Shoes, to be available next month. Inspired by Jane's favorite designers, the three pairs incorporate elements of her ideal shoes, including heavy lace-up detail and avant-garde undertones. What do you think? Will you be checking out her collection at Urban Outfitters next month?

Indie T-Shirts For The Guy In Your Life

    image
DIY thing on Jun 23, 2009 10:23 AM PDT
The guy in your life-- he's pretty special, funny, sweet, always thinks of you-- okay, so we may be stretching it. But he's your man, and he just might have a birthday coming up or maybe you just want to pick him up a little something, because I'm sure he just bought you a dozen roses or took you to the ballet. Well, check out these t-shirts from indie artists. For the music lover, a "Sheet Music" t-shirt by Isotope will do the job. For the guy in your life that is going away-- the "We Should Keep In Touch" t-shirt. Got to love this one-- "The Man Behind The Belly"-- the perfect gift for the expecting father. And if your man would wear it, give him Pinkvelvetpress' "I Heart My Wife" t-shirt. If you are looking to buy for yourself, the "Ex-Girlfriend" t-shirt is sure to bring a few laughs amongst the guys. Take a look at the slideshow for more indie t-shirts!

Cute Things To Put Stuff In

    image
Amber Fijolek on Jun 22, 2009 2:18 PM PDT
Sometimes you've just got too much stuff. Or, perhaps, sometimes it just feels like it. As a girl with a problem with misplacing things (my friends like to apply the term "loser"), there's no system I haven't tried when it comes to organizing all of my loose ends. Fittingly, I get excited when I see things that can contain my things. Especially if they're cute things that I can put those things in. When your recycled shoe box just isn't doing it for you and your home, there's a basket, box, bucket, cup, or tray out there to bring your room (and your pile of things) together. Now, it may not help you find where your things are -- for me, there's really no hope there -- but at least it'll help you express and articulate what impeccably good taste in decorating you have!
