    Rumor: Uniqlo Taking Over Gap?

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 3, 2009 7:18 AM PDT
It's no secret that the Gap has been struggling in recent years to keep up profits and keep the attention of buyers. The denim giant may be doing worse than we thought because rumors have begun circulating that Uniqlo is considering purchasing the business. While at first this takeover would seem unlikely (Uniqlo's presence in the United States is nowhere near as strong as the Gap's), Uniqlo actually comes from a rather strong empire called Fast Retail, founded in 1984 by Tadashi Yanai. Yanai reportedly has been looking for new ways to break into the American fashion market. So what would a Gap under Uniqlo regime look like? We have to admit that we'd be interested to find out.

Levi's is our go-to source for the best fitting jeans. They have recently launched the "Swank" style ($150.00) which is a great versatile boot cut in a medium blue wash. The Swank jean by Levi's will take you from Friday at work to dinner to a party. We here at Haute Mimi chose a few pieces to compliment these fabulous jeans with an exotic twist, our specialty here at HM. Oh and recessionistas rest assured, this whole outfit is under $300.00.

Top: tunic via TopShop, $55.00 We love this tunic because of the detailing at the neck and the flowy cut, which will sit well against any figure.

Bag: clutch via TopShop, $50.00 Add a dash of glamour with this amazing snakeskin clutch. Wear it with this outfit and practically any other.

Shoes: wedges via Chinese Laundry, $50.00 Not only will these gorgeous wedges give you mile long legs (a must have with jeans), tey'll will also be comfortable all day long.

Get Distressed And Ripped Denim For Summer

    image

It seems like only yesterday that we were all wearing flannel and ripped denim (remember the grunge scene of the early 90s?). I used to go down those rough cement slides in the park to get the perfect distressed look. Those days are long gone, but ripped denim is no one hit wonder! We've seen celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Victoria Beckham wear their ripped jeans in style. From super short shorts to flirty skirts and jeans in different cuts, there's a ripped style just for you. You can get a super destroyed jean with big holes and tears like this bleached pair from Oak. If you're like me and like a more subtle look, pay attention to pieces with distressed edges and smaller rips and tears. After all, those little rips can always be made into bigger ones. Check out my slideshow for more ripped denim, from less than $15 to $200, that you'll want to rock all summer long.

Denim Jackets That Never Go Out Of Style!

    image

Denim jackets really never go out of style and they keep getting updated each season with more stylized looks to keep them fresh and modern. I've been wearing my H&M Stella McCartney denim jacket for the last few years and it's always been a great summer staple. I really want to update my look this summer so I'm looking around for a new piece with the same kind of versatility. I love this Pilot Denim Jacket ($178 at Anthropologie). It's got a great denim wash and it's has a perfect casual/dressy ratio to it when paired with a summery dress. Other denim jackets I'm really diggin' are the Mike & Chris Gibson Jacket ($345), J. Crew's Denim Safari Jacket ($98), and the Current/Elliott Snap Jacket ($274 at Shopbop). Check out more summer style staples over at Coquette!

Marc Jacobs Introduces Under $200 "Don't Miss The Marc" ...

Figuring out what to wear on that nerve-wracking first day of school is nothing short of, well, nerve-wracking. Sartorially speaking, your clothes make the impression before you do, so yes, what you wear does matter. Leave it to Marc Jacobs to make this decision a little easier! Come August, he'll introduce his "Don't Miss The Marc" back-to-school capsule collection, a fun mix of printed and solid clothes and accessories that all retail for less than $200. Younger fans (and the adventurous, I suppose) will spring for the printed leggings and graphic tees while longtime devotees will appreciate knit blazers and denim skirts at prices easier to swallow for students, or just anyone who wishes they were! Look for the limited edition collection in Marc stores and online at Bloomingdales.com on August 1st!
