Recession Chic: Statement Jewelry Under $50

    image

It's all about making a personal statement through jewelry these days. Chunky bracelets, multi-layered necklaces and huge earrings help add character and individual style to sleek outfits, but many times, these gorgeous works of wearable art cost more than we're willing to shell out. The great thing about statement jewelry is that it's eye-catching and highly memorable, but the downside is also how memorable it can be. Sure, you could wear your statement piece every day, and you'd certainly get your money's worth, but people would probably begin to notice and you might get bored of the piece yourself! Check out the slideshow for our favorite standout pieces and scoop up a few to add to your outfits- at under $50 each, you can shift your thinking to style statements, not bank statements!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: TIBI

If there's one thing a Tibi runway never fails to lack, it's plenty of color... and this year's Miami Swim show was no exception! While there was little variety in the cut of the suits, which mainly alternated between minimal-coverage bikinis and one-pieces bearing deep necklines (with a couple one-shoulder numbers thrown into the mix), the abundance of bright, tropical prints seemed practically bottomless! If the tribal-gone-funky theme was not apparent enough with the models' cuffed forearms, gold metal sandals, and idol symbol jewelry dangling from their ears and necklines, the suits' many patterns -- from neon geometric tribal designs to tropical orchid-inspired florals -- cleared up all possible doubt. Even among the sea of shocking pink and turquoise suits, a particularly gorgeous magenta tunic dress stood out, trailing a flowing train of silk in its path and closing the show in the fiercest way possible. What to Wear: Meeting His Parents!

    image

You've been with your guy for a while, and things are getting serious. His parents are coming to visit. He wants you to meet them. Try not to panic. You're charming! Guy knows that you'll wow them. Now, to decide what to wear! A few recommendations: wear something flattering, but not revealing. Don't show too much cleavage or too much leg, but hey, work your assets all the same. Choose a classic style like Calvin Klein's Laser Cut Ruffle Shirtdress. Something that will flatter your curves, but also says, hey I'm a good girl and I would make a great mother to your grandkids. If you've got a killer dress already, I recommend one pop of interest and color with your jewelry. Wearing something like Kenneth Jay Lane's Garden Cuff is great because if all else fails, it's a conversation piece. Check out my slideshow for lots of options to meet his parents!

Have you ever spent way too much time planning out the day's ensemble the night before, only to put it on the next morning and realize it looks significantly more "blah" on you than it did in your head? No matter how many layers, mixing-and-matching, and pops of color you might have tried to incorporate, something just seems to be missing. Don't fret, dear stylistas; as usual, Stylehive's Stylescopes are here to fix your fashion woes and provide you with stellar style advice that is sure to help you get through the week! A boringly bare outfit usually just needs a little glamming or glitzing up by means of jewelry -- a pendant necklace to keep a naked collar company, a dangly pair of earrings to keep the attention on your pretty face, some bangles to add a dash of flash to your wrists -- the possibilities are practically endless! The heavens forbid, however, that you go overboard with the bling, so make sure you choose your ornaments wisely... and that's where the stars come in! Aries girls can call on some old Hollywood glamor with an updated pearl necklace for some added classy flair to a seemingly everyday outfit, and Capricorns will show they mean business with a pair of gold coin earrings, just for example! Take a look at the slideshow to see what type of jewelry can help you adorn yourself appropriately for the week ahead!
