What to Wear: Meeting His Parents!

    image
kate napleton on May 31, 2009 9:04 AM PDT
You've been with your guy for a while, and things are getting serious. His parents are coming to visit. He wants you to meet them. Try not to panic. You're charming! Guy knows that you'll wow them. Now, to decide what to wear! A few recommendations: wear something flattering, but not revealing. Don't show too much cleavage or too much leg, but hey, work your assets all the same. Choose a classic style like Calvin Klein's Laser Cut Ruffle Shirtdress. Something that will flatter your curves, but also says, hey I'm a good girl and I would make a great mother to your grandkids. If you've got a killer dress already, I recommend one pop of interest and color with your jewelry. Wearing something like Kenneth Jay Lane's Garden Cuff is great because if all else fails, it's a conversation piece. Check out my slideshow for lots of options to meet his parents!

Cuff 'Em: Vintage Fashionistas Bracelet Themselves For Summer

    image
Mary Kincaid on May 22, 2009 8:23 AM PDT
Over 7,000 years ago, our ancient ancestors in Egypt and Africa began making bracelets out of wood, stone, plants, and yes, even bone. Today, bracelets are the second most-popular jewelry item, right behind earrings. Whether you like 'em dainty or gargantuan, fancy or organic, signed or homemade, classic or mod--there is definitely a vintage bracelet out there in your price range. And don't be a label snob when you're shopping, since many designers never signed their jewelry. Bracelets are also an excellent way to exercise your style muscle. If you're the classic, conservative type, break out of your mold with a mod geometric piece. If you live on the fashion edge, try something more dainty and feminine just for kicks. Here's a collection of different vintage styles to inspire you. Just click the slideshow to see them.

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: Dark Knight

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 1, 2008 10:30 AM PDT
Time to take a break from looking ahead to fall- the season's newest trend came alive centuries ago. The medieval-inspired look combines intricate, antique detailing with tarnished bronze and gold, which mingle with the ever-popular equestrian style for a trend that tells a story all its own. Sound like something you've seen before? Then delve into the dark ages with an edgier approach- think spikes and studs, leathers in dirty metallic shades, and knuckle rings- and let's not forget the makeup, with deeply stained lips in hues ranging from blood red to black. Wondering how to make the trend work for today? Try pairing a dainty white dress with Fabian y Felipe's oxidized silver and bronze necklace, and add Etro's metal belt if you're feeling extra adventurous. And they'll all be groveling at your feet when you don Miu Miu's crown-heeled stilettos, perfect for the princess who doesn't spend her days dreaming of a white knight. Go to Elle's Fall A to Zee trends to see Joe Zee's picks, and click on my slideshow for more ways to work the Dark Knight trend.

    B is for...Bold Statement Jewelry

You've probably been hearing about statement jewelry for some time now, but come fall it's back and bolder than ever. That means the baubles you thought were too over-the-top are now the ones you'll want to be wearing, no matter how big, bulky, or blinged-out they are! Want to add some punch to a basic tee and jeans? Throw on Subversive's 'sunken treasure' necklace- the melange of chains and charms was made to be shown off. Need a big accessory for that little black dress? An Erickson Beamon stone, crystal, and gold leaf cuff should do the trick. The pieces we're about to show you are worth their weight in gold, silver, and pretty much anything else you could think of, but don't let a little heavy lifting scare you away. Go to Fall A to Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's selections, and click on our slideshow for even more bold statement jewelry picks.

New York Fashion Week Style Steal: Little Black Dress, Big ...

Gone are the days of the little black dress being a foolproof outfit and nothing more-- these days it's all about reinventing the classic with edgy accessories and using it as a canvas to create look after stunning look. This impeccably stylish Peter Som show-goer hit all the right notes: tousled hair, layered necklaces, a bold cuff, open toe shoe boots, and of course, a black dress with equal parts structure and softness. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything wrong with this outfit, and I'm pretty that if there was a best-dressed list for non-celebrity fashion week folk, she'd surely come out on top. New York Fashion Week Style Steal: I'll Wear What He's Wearing

Boys, take note: the graphic tee, blazer, and jeans combo never, and I mean never, fails. Change up the color scheme and throw on some quirky accessories (mint wayfarers, tennis shoes) and you'll be set for anything- and anyone- who comes your way. The colorful jacket is a bit daring, but he wears it so well, and as for the casually half-buttoned, sleeves rolled up style, well, it's just so effortless. I can show you where to find pretty much everything he's wearing, but style like his just can't be bought. Click the slideshow to try and get the look!
