Sick and tired of seeing bad movies surrounded by sappy couples or eating way-too-expensive dinners? Looking for romantic and low-key Valentine's Day date ideas instead? If you're in an area that usually gets good weather in February then why not try having an outdoor date right in your backyard? Totally suitable for the daytime, lay out a comfy blanket on the lawn, pop a chilled bottle of nice champagne and load up on fresh fruit, cheese, cold cuts and a loaf of French bread for a private and romantic picnic with the help of this 2-person picnic set. Add candles and lanterns when the sky gets dark for some romantic mood lighting. End the day with some stargazing and maybe s'more making over an open fireplace! And you don't have to reserve these moments just for Valentine's Day so you can definitely keep the romance alive almost all year 'round. Take a look at my slideshow for more outdoor Valentine's Day ideas.

Staycation. It's a trendy term I've been hearing thrown around quite a bit this summer. And while I applaud the news programs that turned this eco-friendly idea of staying close to home into a chic way to spend this summer's vacation, most peoples' backyards are anything but an oasis. So how do you turn that crumbling patio or yellowing lawn into something that resembles a desirable outdoor living space? Well, it's really quite simple - accessorize! By adding interesting features to you your backyard, you can turn an ordinary outdoor space into something truly exceptional. Be drawn outside for a playful game of croquet, or escape the sunlight under a jewel-toned cabana. At night, illuminate your yard with an exquisitely designed fire pit, or watch your favorite flicks on an outdoor theater entertainment system. What's best of all is that these items are meant to be shared in the company of family and friends. So this summer, invite over some friends, cook up your favorite summertime foods, and indulge in a staycation. Be sure to check out my SLIDESHOW for five items that would definitely turn your vacation at home into something extraordinary!
