I realize it's already the end of July, but that doesn't mean swim season is over just yet! The recent end of Miami Fashion Week has all us Bees buzzing over the newest swimsuits and accessories; plus the stars say you're destined for at least another two months of fun in the sun! While you may be a little behind in picking up a whole slew of brand-new bathing suits, it's never too late to splurge on a cool caftan, pareo, maxi dress, or other means of keeping your sexy suit incognito until it's time to dive in. Not sure how you should cover-up in the latter half of summer? Let the fates be your guide! Leos will pack plenty of drama in a split-sleeve olive tunic and Gemini gals will bring out some inner Latin-flavored fire with an off-the-shoulder baby doll cover-dress. Vintage Fashionistas Get Chic In Caftans

It shouldn't be hard to believe that caftans originated back in 14th-century Persia as garments for men. After all, they're super comfy and men tend to value comfort over fashion. You don't see men teetering along on four-inch heels or squeezing themselves into vise-like undergarments. And while the identity of the first female to appropriate a caftan for herself is unknown, women everywhere should cheer for her courage to step outside the fashion box. Now commonly chosen as beach cover-ups or attire for pool parties, you shouldn't overlook the power of a caftan for an elegant evening, too. Try one with a few chunky bracelets, flat jeweled sandals, or a head scarf to add a bohemian feel. Click the slideshow to see a chic collection of vintage caftans that pack a powerful fashion punch.

Who says the only way to dress at the beach is skimpy? Well, you can still be skimpy, but wait 'til we get to the beach, alright? We're not in Europe, you know. For the sake of style and sensibility alike, choose a tunic to cover up with this summer! The light, airy, boho-like style should already be part of our spring and summer wardrobes, so slipping on a tunic is a great way to perfect your beach-going look. The assortment of colors and styles, and even price ranges, make these worry-free wraps a must-have summer accessory. Pair with a pair of shades and gladiator sandals and you can even transform some of these slideshow picks into out-and-about wear after a day in the sun!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Tommy Bahama

    image
Ida Hsiang on Jul 21, 2008 8:22 AM PDT
Summer is all about resorts and relaxation. Borrowing from this mind-set, Tommy Bahama introduced their latest collection of luxury resort and swimwear. Tommy Bahama has long been a leader in high-end cruise and resort wear, known for their pretty prints of tropical foliage and classic and elegant lines and silhouettes. The prints were a little less fun-in-the-sun and a little more sleek and sophisticated (which I think works better), but still featured the signature tropical plant patterns. Shadows of palm leaves and bunches of wild flowers were showcased on bikinis, maxi-dresses and flowing tops. Colors were rich and fun, but not acid or overly bright. Sherbet orange, ocean blue and jewel-toned fuschia were mixed in with basic black and white and other neutral tones. The swimsuits and resort wear for women featured halter necks and tube-tops or loose, flowing tops and dresses and were sexy without showing too much, making them appropriate for those looking for a little more coverage. The menswear featured classic cuts and lengths in their shirts and trunks, made more interesting with fun colors and trendy gradient prints. Topping off the look for both sexes were wide-brimmed, floppy sun hats that only added to the feel of laid-back luxury and effortless resort chic. Green Style: 10 Eco-Chic Beach Essentials

As you soak up the rays during another glorious beach day, why not do your part for the planet to ensure the beach can be enjoyed by generations of ocean lovers in the years ahead? From your beach bag to your sandals to your cover-up, you can easily and stylishly greenify every single part of your beach experience. Look for beach totes, towels, cover-ups, and bikinis made with organic cotton (about 25% of the world's pesticides come from non-organic cotton farms) or recycled materials like these prepster-chic Ella Vickers bags made with recycled sails. Save your skin and your body, as well as the planet, with mineral sunscreen (as opposed to chemical sunscreen which is thought to be less effective and interfere with hormones). And don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle! Those disposable plastic bottles wreak havoc on the environment - and that's something no true beach bunny could condone!
