Going back to school means you're about to have your brain jogging at high speed: cute clothes, cute boys, and something you should definitely think about before heading back to school, cute school supplies. Get your hands on some of the coolest things to get you through the reading, writing and arithmetic of the school year. For those of us like Kathleen Kelly of "You've Got Mail" who love the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, back to school season has an air of excitement all its own beginning with the scavenger hunt-like school supply lists. Sure, you could fulfill the the teacher's requirements with your older sister's tattered, floppy folders, but the cuter option of getting the newest and trendiest takes on drab wooden rulers and plain silver scissors make the thought of nine months of homework seem bearable! Take a peek at some school supply suggestions that will make you smile through your academic agonies!

Hot In The Hive: Undercover Laptop Sleeve

As a sometimes-careless girl in her early 20s, I've had my share of laptop mishaps. Crashed hard drives, soda spilled on the keyboard, freak accident involving a burst rain pipe (most of those just weren't my fault!) -- name a computer-related tragedy and it's likely I've experienced it. And since I'm far from wealthy enough to be able to afford a replacement laptop every time something goes terribly wrong, I'm not about to take my chances when it comes to my battle-weary notebook getting stolen. The solution? Make it look like a piece of junk with this Undercover Laptop Sleeve! Made to look like a crappy old envelope, the waterproof sleeve is actually quite heavy-duty in its protecting qualities with its tear-proof padding, yet its disguise is something thieves won't even give a second look! Just make sure you don't bring your incognito laptop with you to mailroom -- accidentally shipping it off to China is one thing this sleeve can't protect against.

Ever sit at your work desk and wonder what life would have been like if you pursued your dreams of becoming a DJ? ...No? Yeah, me neither... but I still think it would be pretty fun to give it a shot without having to bribe the club mixmasters into letting me dabble with their ultra-expensive equipment. With the Crosley Portable USB Turntable, an exclusive Urban Outfitters gadget, you can start spinnin' and scratchin' all your favorite old-school tracks with just a quick plug-in to your Mac or PC, and even transfer them to your iPod. Now all you need to do is raid your parents' collection of ancient LPs and you can get to experimenting away with your untapped beat-rocking skills.

Hot In The Hive: Retro-Style Internet Phone

    image

Do you have a gift for gab and talk on the phone almost constantly? Do you have a special place in your heart for all things obsolete and/or retro? Do you have a laptop that's almost as old as you are? If you answered "yes" to any or all of these questions, I may have the perfect vintage gadget for you! Urban Outfitters' Internet Phone (no, not that kind of iPhone) is about as unnecessary as laptop accessories get... that is, unless your computer doesn't have a built-in mic and speakers like most are made with nowadays. In that case, it's totally useful for finally carrying out successful Skype conversations and iChat video discussions (that's only assuming you've equipped your ancient computer with an external webcam) via a plug-in phone receiver made just for your computer. Otherwise, the retro-looking cyber accessory is still pretty covetable, for the sake of cuteness alone... and I guess it could also help keep the receiving end of your e-conversations on the down-low from snooping roommates. So in conclusion, it may not be the most mandatory addition to your shopping list, but the fun things never are, are they?

Banish Those Clunky Laptops And Get A Stylish Netbook!

    image

Whenever I needed to buy a new computer, the bells and whistles of new technology were ringing and of course, I got all the latest and greatest I could afford. I can now admit that no, I actually didn't need that upgraded processor or fancy video editing programs I don't even know how to use! Let's be honest, many everyday computer users just go online to check their email, blogs, shop online, and perhaps some light office work. If that sounds like you and you're in the market for a new laptop, why don't you look into netbooks? Netbooks are one of the latest technology crazes, the main appeal being their low prices, ultra portability, small screens, and under 3 lb weight. Imagine putting one of these netbooks into your small or medium-sized daytime bag! The small size doesn't mean you have to compromise on quality. Take a look at the brand new Dell Inspiron Mini 10, which comes in 6 different colors to match any mood or style! And who could forget the Vivienne Tam edition of the HP Mini from last year's Spring 2009 runway show. These machines are still powerful enough to do many of those things you say you want to do, but I won't tell if you're just reading your email and checking Stylehive! Click the slideshow to see more popular netbooks!
