Make A Bold Statement With Colorblock Home Decor

    image
Ida Hsiang on Oct 28, 2009 8:20 AM PDT
The colorblock craze is one that I like very much. There is nothing more sophisticated than that classic combo of black and white. Bright, solid hues matched with black or each other make for an eye-catching and fashionable ensemble. It's such an easy and appealing way to add interest and color, it's a wonder that it hasn't caught on in home decor as well. Be a trend-setter and apply this tried and true style statement to your home. You can choose a few of your favorite colors and use them in a number of accents. Throw pillows and rugs are an easy way to go and make boring rooms more colorful and energetic. Items like placemats and shower curtains are also fun and easy ways to spruce up your living space and give your home a harmonious theme without having to spend too much! Click on the slideshow for some great colorblock ideas that you can bring into your home!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Red Carter

A swimsuit is a swimsuit is a swimsuit, right? Not if it's a Red Carter design! They challenge your idea of a conventional one-piece or bikini and have you lusting after the interesting and daring details of their suits. Red Carter isn't tentative or apologetic about their extreme and avant-garde outlook. There are, of course, colorful and lively patterns that stimulate the eye, but it is the space-age metallic leggings or edgy hardware that garner the most attention. It's the optical illusion patterns and the oversized, brightly colored, Lolita-like details that make you sit up a little straighter and stare a little longer. The strapless tops and wild animal prints earned more than a few double-takes... and possibly neck injuries! Beach coverings were elegant and luxurious. Men in speedos and barely-there briefs have never been my thing, but if all men looked like the male models did in Red Carter's bold and edgy "trunks," then I may just have to rethink my stance! Work A Fresh And Flirty Dirndl Skirt Into Your Wardrobe!

This spring, it's really about keeping things flirty, feminine and fresh and what better way to achieve all three than with the a dirndl skirt? The great thing about the dirndl skirt is that it is versatile, comfortable and effortlessly fashionable. Characterized by their tightly gathered material at the waistband, dirndl skirts are popping up everywhere from Forever 21 to Club Monaco to runway giant Valentino. They mask wide hips and thighs and make the waist look tiny in comparison so that every girl can have the Marilyn Monroe physique! Tuck in a crisp, fitted knit shirt or tank and pair it with cute flats and matching headband for a girly springtime outfit, or shorten the hemline and lengthen the heels for a flirty, sex-kitten look! Dirndl skirts are even work appropriate with the right blazer and pumps. Try a structured button down and a wide belt or pair a super short dirndl skirt with leggings and give it a 90's twist. Or, look for a dress that features a dirndl bottom to really play up your feminine side! Click the slideshow to see my favorites.

It's still a little chilly outside, even if the snow has melted. You need a little something to cover your arms, but you can no longer stand your winter jackets. Enter the spring "personality" jacket, stage left. This charming, colorful jacket is waiting to take your style from winter blahs to spring ahh's! Just slap it over your basics - black pants, skirts, capris, white shirts (well, you, get the idea) and all of the sudden, you're Ms. Chic in your city! I personally find myself falling in love with this Semantiks 'deep end' raglan sleeve jacket, but let's be honest, I've been rocking this Marc by Marc Jacobs 'hopscotch' jacket since I picked it up on deep discount on Black Friday. Anyway, find one that you are absolutely crazy for, and go for it. You'll wear it more than you can imagine over work apparel and casually with jeans. Happy searching and check out my slideshow for plenty of possibilities!

Look Fashionably Fierce In A Bengal Stripe Shirt

A Bengal stripe button shirt is a fancy way of saying a "striped shirt." Well €“ not really. A Bengal striped shirt is simple, with evenly spaced stripes and it's sartorially symmetric and dignified. It has remained a classic piece in a gentleman's wardrobe. Some come in classic primary colors, but we are seeing a lot of them in softer shades like pink and purple. The style has even been tinkered with and designers like tie is always a good thing, but you can always do away with the neckwear and go the casual route. For a little more dapper flair, choose a contrasting collar. Whatever you choose, you can never go wrong with a Bengal stripe because we all know that stripes are slimming. Check out these shirts to quench your striped thirst.
