Vintage Fashionistas Savor Gray This Season!

    image
Mary Kincaid on Nov 20, 2009 8:18 AM PST
When searching for vintage clothing online, it's important that you use the right keywords to find what you want. And heaven forbid you're looking for something gray, because well, there's gray (the American spelling) and then there's grey (the British spelling). Of course, since vintage clothing sellers on both sides of the pond spell this color both ways without any sensible rhyme or reason, the wise online vintage shopper knows to plug both spellings into their search engines. If you do, you'll be rewarded with a smorgasbord of vintage treats in this classic, conservative neutral. Try substituting darker charcoal shades of gray for black. Or choose pale shades of gray to take the place of white. Morning, noon or night, for dresses, coats or evening gowns, gray is a fabulous wardrobe choice for a vintage fashionista. 10 Trendy Trench Coats For Under $200!

When it comes to outerwear, trench coats are totally chic when you want to add a layer that's sleek, unlike your other bulky winter coats and fur-lined down jackets. They may not be the warmest all-weather option, but trenches can still keep you toasty if you opt for a wool version, and with the help of a built-in belt you don't need to worry about sacrificing your shape under a heap of fabric. Rain-friendly varieties can help you stay dry while you're braving the frightful weather, and with the added convenience of detachable hood, you practically have two multi-purpose coats in one! Of course, the perfect trench can force you into some serious debt, but lucky for all you thrifty fashionistas, I've found a selection of ten different trenches for $200 or less! Check them out in the slideshow!

As seen in Real Simple magazine, the Transfourmer coat is one coat that can be unzipped and worn in 4 different ways. Remove the bottom for a chic motorcycle jacket look or take off the sleeves and bottom for a twist on a vest. The inside is lined with Rachel's signature graffiti print, for an unexpected pop of color. View the video that demos all of the different looks the coat transforms into, then check out Couture in the City for more thrifty fashion treasures!

Fall is a fun time for fashionistas -- slouchy sweaters, pretty coats, cozy boots and warm, textured fabrics highlight the season. Let's take a look at some of the latest fashion trends and shopping deals for fall.

Hot Handbags: You don't need to spend a small fortune to get into the fall trends. These handbags for under $100 are on trend for the season. Look for bags with lots of texture -- studs, fringe, ruffles and pleats.

Sensational Shoes & Boots: When it comes to footwear, look for these warm colors that are perfect for cool weather. My favorite is definitely cranberry red -- a staple in my fall wardrobe. Velvet vampy shoes are also hot this season. If you are looking for boots, check out the coolest choices in fall boots, from flat riding boots to dramatic over-the-knee styles.
