Striped Tees And Accessories Make Looking Chic A Snap!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 29, 2009 8:22 AM PDT
If you took a peek inside my closet, you'd notice two main things: a stack of little/medium/big brown bags that I should probably hide, and an abundance of stripes- striped tees, striped cardigans, striped sweaters, and maybe even a striped scarf or two. Needless to say I'm convinced you can never really have too many striped pieces, and as far as versatile classics go, stripes are easily my favorite. Whether you go for an original nautical staple from Saint James or a contemporary update from Splendid, a well-fitting striped top is the easiest route to chic simplicity and really couldn't be more effortless. If patterned tops aren't really your thing, a striped handbag is equally stylish -- an iconic hobo from Bendel's is playful and luxurious to boot. Feeling adventurous? Pair your stripes with another print, like florals (a la this look snapped by Garance Dore). See more striped tees and accessories in my slideshow!

Hot In The Hive: Penguin Classics Illustrated By Ruben Toledo

For the upcoming Fashion Week, you might not find me glued to the computer hitting the refresh button as the latest runway images come in. Instead, I'll be curled up in my reading nook with a classic novel instead. (Just don't tell my boss!) No worries, they are fashion related. Penguin Books is releasing three beloved classics, The Scarlet Letter, Wuthering Heights, and Pride and Prejudice all with brand new covers illustrated by artist Ruben Toledo. If his name sounds familiar, that's because his wife Isabel designed the dress and coat First Lady Michelle Obama wore to the inauguration ceremony. Ruben is also a name in fashion with his illustrations that have appeared in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Interview just to name a few. The fashion makeovers for the new covers are just what we needed with Hester Prynne's tangled letter A scorning her from society, Elizabeth Bennet rejecting Mr. Darcy, and a mysterious Heathcliff lurking in the back cover of Wuthering Heights. So who says literature and fashion don't mix?

    Price: $16
Who Found It: facadeindreams was the first to add the Penguin Classics Illustrated By Ruben Toledo to the Hive.

    Influential International Style: Emma Watson

Knowing full-well that she could take advantage of an Invisibility Cloak at any given moment, Emma Watson's status as a rising international style icon is even more impressive. The Harry Potter star is all grown up, and as the new face of the House of Chanel, is rumored to also be replacing Keira Knightley as the face of Burberry. How does a wizard rise to a style queen seemingly overnight? By choosing classic shapes, flattering neutrals, and always looking age appropriate. Whether it's a risk of length or a gorgeous backless gown, there is always a little something extra to Emma Watson's red carpet looks. Also catapulting her into success? Refusing to follow makeup trends and instead choosing flattering shimmers, and backing it all up with a classic updo or soft waves for a hairstyle. Shop For Cute Basics By Celeb Favorite Rebel Yell At ...

Tired of trying to look effortlessly cute all the time? Well I am. One of my favorite brands, Rebel Yell, has come to the rescue, making my wardrobe playful, comfortable and all things vintage. Getting ready for the much-anticipated spring season, the Rebel Yell collection, which is now at Karmaloop.com, remedies all of my fashion problems. The collection offers the basics: T-shirts, button-downs, raglans, hoodies and other clothes that are meticulously structured for optimal comfort and style. Conceived in February 2005 by Daniel and Andi Ballard, the label is heavily inspired by nostalgic childhood memories growing up in Virginia. Andi, the brand€™s designer, explains, €œit€™s a name inspired by the rowdy all-American lifestyle we grew up in. I want Rebel Yell to be super-fresh and easy to wear. The kind of clothing that doesn€™t overpower you, but still makes you look damn good. I obsess about the fit and design details, and refuse to put out a product that Daniel and I wouldn€™t want to wear." The brand reflects the styles that the creators grew up with: relaxed, fresh and classic. Rebel Yell€™s future is looking very promising, as it continues to attract both men and women everywhere, as well as celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, and many others. Keep your style at ease with my top three picks: the three quarter sleeve colorblock tuni hoody, the yes, no tee and the skinny pant.

Home Poll: Conceptual Modern, Or Updated Classic?

    image

When decorating your home it is crucial to decide: are you a nostalgic or a forward thinker? Are you more prone to sift through flea markets for your homey treasures or visit the MOMA store? Chances are, like me, you don't really want to define yourself by either extreme. However with an empty apartment waiting to be turned into a home, I have to commit to some sort of style, and I want your advice on which direction to lean. Is hyper-conceptual modernism really the future, or is the cozy feeling of updated classics the way to swing? I present you with two options: this opulent, Marie Antoinette style chair, or this concept from Dedon Furniture.
