New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Anna Sui

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Sep 21, 2009 10:19 AM PDT
Anna Sui has definitely kept herself busy this season, between her much anticipated Gossip Girl-themed Target collaboration and the stunningly rich circus-themed Spring 2010 collection she debuted just days ago at New York Fashion Week. Preppy separates like cable knit sweaters, pleated skirts, and coordinating jackets were given a playful spin with Peter Pan-collared tops, vividly printed silk shirts, and the most whimsical patchwork jacket imaginable. A steady stream of purple and grey looks gave way to splashes of pink, green, and orange for some eye-brightening variety. Patterns appeared to be haphazardly layered together at first, but with a more careful perusal, the mixing and matching produced an end result that was actually quite seamless- in some cases, it was difficult to see where one piece ended and another began! Purely intriguing, I tell you. My favorite look was the printed shorts and tie-neck blue peeking out from a marching band-inspired vest- and who could forget the sequined mask (worn as a headband- kind of brilliant, right?) on the always adorable Sasha Pivovarova? Forever21 Twist Presents Limited-Edition Cirque 21 Collection

    image

Forever21 clothes are the fashion equivalent of a summer fling. The outcome is always the same: I fall hard for an item and before I know it (approximately two months later), it's gone-- chalk it up to less than satisfactory handiwork or perhaps neglect in the form of not taking it out to the dry cleaners (but why do that when you can Febreeze?). Even so, I find myself clicking over to the Forever21 website to scope out potential future heartbreaks. The latest thing to catch my eye? Forever 21 Twist: Cirque 21, a limited-edition collection of big top-inspired looks that will be available in stores and online starting Wednesday, July 29. Think stripes, poufy dresses, cropped jackets, and lots of tulle. There's no word on future Twist collections, and this one's really just not my type, but one thing's for sure- I know I'll be coming back for more. I just can't help myself.

What do you think of Forever21 Twist? Check out the slideshow to preview the collection, and let us know in comments!

What Do You Think Of The New Britney Spears For Candie's Ads?

    image

The new Britney Spears for Candie's ad campaign has just been released, and all excessive photoshopping aside, she's looking good- if not a bit Barbie-like. I just have a feeling people won't even really notice the shoes she's wearing, which, along with the Candie's collection, will be available exclusively at Kohl's. The ad will appear in just one publication- Us Weekly- as a pull-out poster in the April 15th issue. The last time I saw a pull-out poster was in my copy of Twilight, and it honestly made me feel way old, but if you're nostalgic for the "Baby One More Time" era I suggest swinging by the newsstand in a couple weeks! One more thing: is this not the safest way to have your photo appear in a tabloid? Smart girl.

Britney Welcomes Us To Her Circus With The Help Of Dsquared2

I guess you can call Britney Spears a fashion icon. Well, she€™s not necessarily an icon per se, but she has been admired by hordes of people for her style. With her new €œCircus€ themed tour, the Disney cherub-turned-tabloid pop princess is pushing the envelope with her €œcomeback.€ Donned in a wardrobe designed by Dsquared2, she goes from a stripper-esque ringmaster to a slutty police officer to a golden armored glamazon to a €“ well, you get the picture. Her tour is full of Big Top costumes that are not necessarily fit for the Ringling Bros. The wardrobe mixes traditional three-ring circus apparel with S&M-friendly garb and adds a dash of naughty and a handful of provocative sexiness. Case and point: a nipple tassel outfit. My oh my, she has definitely come a long way from those pleated Catholic school girl skirt days..
