The apartments featured in this book are all located in major metropolitan areas New York, Chicago, San Francisco, L.A. And it seems that a high percentage of the people whose dwellings are featured in its pages are designers of some sort. When they arent, its a riddle: how do a journalist and a nonprofit arts administrator afford a home in Bernal Heights? A lot of these apartments are tied to historical periods through the elements of their interior design. Just as important as being inspired by seeing how other people decorate their homes is the desire to make something new, and its a desire that the book stokes through its insistence on established styles and familiar eclecticism.
