Jimmy Choo For H&M Collection Debuts For VIPs, And All ...

On the eve of the official Jimmy Choo for H&M collection debut, I made my way to the retailer's flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York for a special pre-launch shopping event. Celebs, fashion professionals, and press made up the invitation list--par for the course at these shindigs. We're generally a jaded lot (or, at least, pretend to be). Anna Wintour walks within two feet of you in the tents during Fashion Week? Don't even blink (internally, though, you're hyperventilating). So imagine my surprise when upon entering the red-carpeted doors, I spotted many of my brethren in a state of downright frenzy, squealing over stilettos and gleefully grabbing as many handbags as they were allowed. The store itself was tricked out with glamorous sapphire draping, an open bar, and gourmet h'or dourves, but all eyes were on the shoe section where even the guests had to wait our turn to have a go. Christian Siriano and Michelle Trachtenberg were just some of the stars spotted in the fray, and as I left the store, there were apparently folks getting ready to line up overnight for the opening on Saturday morning. The H&M designer collections are a phenomenon I love for the fun, boy band crazy-like moments they create, especially when they can bring out the fashion fanatic in many of my seemingly "over it" colleagues, moi included. And next up on H&M's stellar collaboration roster? Sonia Rykiel, whose H&M lingerie collection launches December 5, with a spring collection debut to follow on February 10, 2010. Runway Wrap-Up: Stylehive's Top 10 Looks From New York ...

Despite the mayhem that Fashion Week always brings upon us over here at the Hive, even from all the way across the country, we have to say we are a little sad to see it go. I mean, now what are we supposed to do? Sit around drooling until next spring when all of these gorgeous summery pieces finally hit the stores? In the meantime, we can take comfort in the fact that based on the designers' Spring/Summer collections, the forecast for next year is undoubtedly hot, hot, hot! Looking back on all of the runway parades we've covered in the past couple weeks, we can't help but notice the abundance of fun party frocks -- from Christian Siriano's tiered ruffles to Zac Posen's neon sheaths -- and the welcome resurgence of bright, cheerful hues (after all, what's more springy than color?) that seem to insist that high-impact shades are clearly going to be the new black! As for the late-night dance-floor hoppers, who can forget Whitney Port's designer debut with all of those slinky metallic numbers? And while the celebrity attendance record may have been abysmal (aside from the usual Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe sightings), I'm sure the starlets will still be rocking these runway looks on the red carpet come spring! Take a look at the slideshow to reminisce with us over the Fashion Week highlights!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Christian Siriano

    image

As demonstrated by Christian Siriano's stunning Spring/Summer 2010 collection, the youngest-ever winner of Project Runway is still fierce as ever! While his Fall 2009 collection took inspiration from Egyptian pharaohs and the sandy banks of the Nile, this time around he took his audience on a trip to what looked like a Tahitian beach sunset with his satiny tan suits, orange gradient gowns, and sparkly aqua hues. Shimmering steel-blue pinstripes and cascading tiered ruffles gave the collection a distinctly oceanic vibe along with a polished femininity, and every piece seemed to boast a "Christian" signature, from the sand-and-sky color palette to the My Fair Lady-esque floppy hats. If that wasn't a challenge for the other PR graduates to step up their game, I don't know what is! Click on the slideshow to browse the dazzling collection!

New York Fashion Week Fills The Shows' Front Rows With Plenty ...

    image

Among the fashion elite who are actually granted access to the highly-exclusive Bryant Park tents are some of Hollywood's most noted celebrities -- after all, what kind of star would you be if you weren't dressed by the best of the best in designer royalty? Some famous fashionistas like Kellie Pickler and Jessica Stroup couldn't stay away from the glamour of the runway and were spotted warming up the front row seats of several designers' shows, including Badgley Mischka, Pamella Roland, and Lela Rose; meanwhile, other more low-key VIPs saved their appearances for just their favorite style mavens, like Mickey Rourke for Domenico Vacca. While New York Fashion Week is ultimately about the clothing, many stylish starlets' presences in the front row are inevitably photographed even more frequently than the designer threads themselves (oh, the price of fame), but most celeb attendees made sure they shared the spotlight and showed their support by arriving in their favorite pieces from the headlining label, like Brittany Snow in her gorgeous beaded Diane von Furstenberg dress. I know being famous must be exhausting, but I really can't think of anything I wouldn't give to switch places with one of those front-row ticket holders just for a day (preferably Herve Leger day, please), even if I had to be Paris Hilton. Check out the slideshow for more pictures of stylish superstars, both in the audience and backstage at some of New York Fashion Week's hottest shows!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Christian Siriano's Collection ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Feb 26, 2009 5:29 AM PST
In his first official post-Project Runway show within the Bryant Park tents, 4th season winner Christian Siriano proved that his design talent is even bigger than his personality. With an array of pieces inspired by the pyramid shapes and desert colors of Egypt and North Africa, his Fall 2009 Collection wowed the fully-packed audience, including a selection of head industry executives from Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Saks who all drooled at the possibility of carrying the fabulous fashioneer on their racks. The runway opened with several characteristically-Christian ensembles, featuring long cape-like jackets, puffed sleeves, and lots of signature ruffles that we have come to associate with the designer since his show-stopping Bravo TV finale, but this time around his distinctive touches appeared much more refined and carefully constructed. What really had crowd members clapping, however, was his parade of beautifully-flowing dresses of satin and organza, draped in glossy colors that mimicked the desert sand and the Nile water, along with his closing Pharaoh-inspired body-clinging gold gown, complete with a headpiece that only model Sessilee Lopez and maybe Cleopatra herself could pull off. Overall his collection was both inventively creative and wearably chic (no "hot messes" in sight!), and convinced most runway attendees that Christian may just be the Project Runway protege to make it big-time... and the fiercest, of course.
