    CollegeCandy Wishlist: ASOS Draped Dress

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 13, 2009 5:18 AM PST
When you're on a budget, you can't spend your money on just anything. You need items that are versatile, timeless and just plain pretty. And this beautiful dress from ASOS is all that and more. It is short, yet it reveals just enough skin with its strapless design for hitting those clubs on Saturday night. Put on some sexy, strappy heels and you are ready to conquer the dance floor. When the party's over, work this dress in a different way. Got a holiday party coming up? Slip it on with a pair of pumps and clutch. A nice family dinner to attend? Put a blazer over the top and you'r good to go. Wanna rock it out? Add a leather jacket, tights and a pair of ankle boots. Unlike most mini dresses, this ASOS design is anything but typical. I really love the contrast created by the light drape, especially the way it crosses the bust to the waistline and then back over again on the bottom. With this dress in your closet you'll have the solution to every wardrobe dilemma. Whether it's a birthday party or a wedding, this dress is the answer! Check out CollegeCandy for other holiday season wardrobe staples!

The Fall/Winter 2009 Kate Moss for TopShop Collection is now available on the store's website. With the new collaboration, Moss and TopShop emphasize vintage glamour and smart, grown-up pieces. But don't worry -- there's still a rock-n-roll element to Kate Moss's collection, influenced by the best of the '60s through the '80s. Blouses and dresses in billowy chiffon are prominent, including this gorgeous Beaded Collar Swing Dress. Simple jersey tops are given a biker chick finish whether adorned with studs, beads or chain details, while eveningwear has an antique feel. Tarnished gold sequins are scattered over a maxi dress, waistcoat, and this cool Antique Sequin Bolero. Head over to Couture in the City for a run-down of some other pieces in the just-released collection!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Carlos Miele Brings Red Carpet ...

Brazilian designer Carlos Miele delivers once again with stunning looks for ladies who lunch and for anyone who needs a distinctive dress for special occasions. Models walked down the runway while maneuvering around singer-songwriter Max de Castro as he serenaded the audience with a seafoam green guitar. Miele showed some smart origami-like techniques that embellished the necklines and fitted bodices of silk satin cocktail dresses. Some of my favorite looks included dresses that mixed prints and solids. For those chilly nights at all those galas you'll be attending, throw on a bolero which came in furs, knits, and chiffon. Beauty looks included smokey winged-out eye shadow, natural lip color, and pulled back hair. Take a look at the slideshow for more glamorous looks fit for red carpet events.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Charlotte Ronson Delivers A ...

For fall 2009, Charlotte Ronson brought a bunch of fabulous fashion elements to one place. The collection started off very futuristic and edgy and a bit goth with lots of black, leather, biker jackets, and bondage shoes. The rough styles soon gave way to softer, more wearable ones with floaty chiffon, floral prints, plaid, chunky knits, and fun day dresses. Some looks were soft and sweet, some were retro and 70's inspired, and others were scandalously sexy-- especially the fierce corseted number. Overall, this eclectic show was jam packed with something for everyone.

Trends: leather gloves, plaid, military jackets, motorcycle jackets
    Fabrics: knits, leather, chiffon

The holidays are approaching which means joyous times with friends, family, and of course, feasts! LA Fashion Week: Nonja McKenzie's Flirty-Femme Spring Collection

    image
Caitlin McNulty on Oct 24, 2008 4:25 PM PDT
Local LA stylist turned designer Nonja McKenzie shined at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week with her shimmering Spring '09 collection of beaded shifts, satin tops, and silk jumpsuits. Lame and chiffon butterfly-sleeve tops fluttered down the runway, followed by an array of sixties and seventies inspired dresses in soft fabrics and buttery colors. A plethora of flattering wrap dresses with flirtatious ties swinging to and fro brought a certain girlish charm to the collection, while leopard print and silk halter jumpsuits added the necessary sex appeal. Nonja revamped long-sleeved minidresses and body-conscious asymmetrical dresses with ruching down the sides of sleeves and skirts, but her beadwork stole the show with beaded shifts, billowing tops, and my personal favorite--a black and silver beaded eyelash minidress! Check out our favorite looks from Nonja McKenzie's Spring 2009 Collection in the slideshow!
