KTG Vintage Shirts Would Make Betsey Ross Jealous!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Jul 3, 2009 5:19 AM PDT
With less than a week left to shop, many are scrambling to find the perfect Fourth of July outfit. The fourth of July is almost like Halloween; you want to find a look that everyone will love (and compliment), but you don't want to spend a million bucks on something you will probably wear once. After careful researching, we may have the answer to a cheap-but-chic Independence Day outfit with Kiss the Girl. Kiss the Girl, aka KTG, has been selling vintage-style tees since 2006. The idea came after the founders noticed how many California girls live in their worn-out, well-fitted, and, most important, one-of-a-kind tees. Instantly, KTG set out on a mission to satisfy the demand. The result? Unique pieces made out of quality materials that get better and softer with every wash. All their pieces are embroidered with some sort of design ranging from big peace signs to smaller images of anchors and swallows. They are so confident in their pieces they event stated this: "Kiss the Girl's unique patchwork designs [on our tees] would make the great Betsy Ross jealous." Plus in addition to their already reasonable prices, KTG is offering 20% off of your entire order-- just enter this promo code when you make your purchase on their website - SUMMER09. I think as "fashionistas", we would all love to keep up on the latest "It" bag, dress like the latest "It" girls and always wine and dine at the latest "It" restaurants and lounges. With technology and society going as fast as it is, however, the latest "It" is always changing too. So, unless you are Paris Hilton or have the time and money like she does, you probably aren't snatching up every $700+ bag that fashion gurus say you "must have"! There is a simple, chic and way more affordable way to have an "It" bag resting on your shoulder at all times. Longchamp is introducing their "It" bag, a durable, practical and super-chic tote that you know it an "It" bag because.... well, it says so! A picture of a stylish bag shape is printed onto the tote with the words "Ceci Est Un IT BAG" scrawled across. "Ceci Est Un IT BAG" translates into English as "This is an IT BAG!". These "IT BAG"s come in varying sizes available in a white/ black or orange/black color combination. All the bags are trimmed in cowhide leather and start at $160 and go no higher than $500 for even the largest one! Check out Longchamp and get yourself the gift of the everlasting "It" bag now!

    Price: $160 - $500
Who Found It: idabone was first to add the Longchamp "Ceci Est Un IT BAG" to the Hive.

Excite Your Eyes with Vertical Stripes!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Apr 20, 2009 2:23 PM PDT
Remember when they told us that horizontal stripes made you look fat? By all means, stay AWAY from horizontal stripes! That golden fashion rule was ingrained into our style-psyche for years and years until large black and white horizontal stripes became the next big trend and everyone couldn't wait to walk around looking like pseudo-Parisians everyday, causing cravings for berets and lattes in all innocent on-lookers. The new stripe trend to hit is that of the vertical black and white stripe! Scientists are now saying that vertical stripes can be a frenemy in the "looking fat" department, but runway giants like Gucci, Herve Leger by Max Azria, and Ann Demeulemeester have all embraced the trend. I don't know about you, but I'd rather take fashion advice from the fashion experts! Black and white is a classic contrast combination and is only punched up more by the visually exciting look of vertical stripes. The pattern is versatile and looks great in a lightweight wool for a structured blazer, or a gauzy chiffon for a flirty yet sophisticated day-to-night dress. Vertical stripes are also great for elongating the figure and can make legs look like they go on forever! The trick is to not wear super thin vertical stripes close together. This will cause a visual sensory overload and you run the risk of looking like a wobbly optical illusion. Stripes in varying widths is the most flattering such as wide black stripes and thin white ones for example, or look for stripes that have a slight diagonal tilt to it. If you like what you see but want to take it for a test-drive first, opt for accessories like bags, scarves or hats that feature the vertical stripe pattern. Really be a trendsetter and try vertical stripes with this spring's pop citrus colors!

Recession Chic: 10 Mall Store Finds That Look Way More ...

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Jan 15, 2009 5:12 AM PST
I'll take shopping on Shopbop or Revolve over a trip to the mall any day, but these days, even the abundance of steep discounts and final sales (tempting, but SO unfair) can't always lure my credit card out from my wallet. But, as it turns out, mall stores are often filled with a few gems of their own- you know, those pieces that elicit remarks like "you got that where?!" from friends and strangers alike. Case in point- my worn leather bomber jacket from Zara has been mistaken for a Mike & Chris on more than one occasion! And trust me, walking out of the mall with even just one or two of these new favorite items can feel just as good (if not better!) than ordering a similar piece from a designer boutique, especially if you consider you spent so much less, and when it comes down to it, most people won't even know the difference, as long as the item in question isn't a blatant knockoff (Forever 21, are you listening?). Remember that quality accessories can really pull together any outfit, so when it comes to saving and splurging, spend your money where it counts, i.e. not on that $85 Kain pocket tee that Express makes in better colors anyway for a whopping $24.50. I've searched the web for 10 pieces that look the part, but have almost shockingly low price tags. Click the slideshow to see them all!
