Lindsay, Shakira, And Mischa Glam It Up At The Whitney Gala

    image

The red carpet was certainly rolled out last Monday night at the annual Whitney Musuem Gala for its parade of high-profile attendees from across the film, fashion, and art industries. While guests like Shakira, Chanel Iman, and Alexa Chung discussed their own artistic talents (or lack thereof) over filet mignon appetizers, drooled over Gerard Butler, and listened to Jennifer Hudson's show-stopping mid-dinner performance, other gala-goers couldn't help but just people-watch. After all, Lindsay Lohan was quite a... vision in that daringly short gold dress. And Taylor Momsen's thigh-high slit complete with fishnet stockings was an interesting sight in the context of such a black-tie affair. Both were reportedly mistaken for the event's host, Donatella Versace -- which can either be perceived as somewhat of a compliment or... not so much. Fall 2009 Trend Report: Leather Leather Everywhere!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've noticed that leather is coming back in a major way. It dominated the fall '09 runways and will make a huge statement this fall. It's the perfect way to add some rock and roll style to any outfit. There are the old standbys like leather (or faux leather!) jackets and leggings, yet the best way to wear leather this fall is in non-traditional shapes. Try a loose fitting menswear trousers (like the pleated trousers from Geren Ford). Leather skirts have a bad rap and aren't usually considered to be the most classy choice, but can look totally chic when it's artfully draped or cut like pencil skirt. Want something even more non-traditional? Then leather shorts are for you. Paired with some black tights and killer heels, you have a look that's tough, quirky and chic! Charlotte Ronson's high waisted shorts are your best bet. Check out the slideshow for more ideas!

Runway Wrap-Up: Stylehive's Top 10 Looks From New York ...

Despite the mayhem that Fashion Week always brings upon us over here at the Hive, even from all the way across the country, we have to say we are a little sad to see it go. I mean, now what are we supposed to do? Sit around drooling until next spring when all of these gorgeous summery pieces finally hit the stores? In the meantime, we can take comfort in the fact that based on the designers' Spring/Summer collections, the forecast for next year is undoubtedly hot, hot, hot! Looking back on all of the runway parades we've covered in the past couple weeks, we can't help but notice the abundance of fun party frocks -- from Christian Siriano's tiered ruffles to Zac Posen's neon sheaths -- and the welcome resurgence of bright, cheerful hues (after all, what's more springy than color?) that seem to insist that high-impact shades are clearly going to be the new black! As for the late-night dance-floor hoppers, who can forget Whitney Port's designer debut with all of those slinky metallic numbers? And while the celebrity attendance record may have been abysmal (aside from the usual Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe sightings), I'm sure the starlets will still be rocking these runway looks on the red carpet come spring! Take a look at the slideshow to reminisce with us over the Fashion Week highlights!

    NYFW Backstage Beauty: Charlotte Ronson

For her Spring 2010 collection, Charlotte Ronson was inspired by the ballerinas of New York, specifically the way they look when leaving dance class and mix their dance attire with their regular clothes. To enhance this motif, hair stylist Allen Ruiz from Avon and makeup artist Charlotte Willard for Maybelline created just-walked-out-of-dance-class looks that were fresh and natural-looking. The hair was pulled back into chic, slightly undone buns and the makeup was kept soft, sheer and translucent. I got the chance to hang out backstage before the show to talk to the stylists and watch the looks come to life.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Charlotte Ronson

For her Spring 2010 show at New York Fashion Week, Charlotte Ronson drew inspiration from the ballerinas of New York circa 1980- a reference point which actually made for a really amazing collection! Each look contrasted the sweet and airy with the tough and edgy. Ethereal pieces in ballet-pink and white abounded and all were toughened up with punk-rock studs, acid-washed jeans and tops, boyfriend shirts and jackets, and killer leather platforms. Even as the color palette shifted to edgier shades such as black and cerulean, the dancer-off-duty motif stayed intact with delicate sheer pieces, loose layers, and tulle incorporated into almost every look, either by being wrapped around the legs or hanging loosely off the side. I especially loved the way these looks were put together and how disparate items were able to co-exist seamlessly. A crinkled blush chiffon top with a black studded sleeveless blazer and army green distressed shorts, a double breasted pantsuit with a plaid boyfriend shirt and a splattered army jacket, a beaded one-shoulder dress with an acid-wash leather vest- there were no limitations when it came to mixing and matching. The leather shorts, distressed jackets, sharp blazers, sheer tops, floaty dresses- this collection was chock-full of fabulous pieces and has something for everyone.

Trends: voluminous shoulders, crop tops, acid wash, sheer fabrics

Which Celeb Guest Was Most Fashionably Fired Up For JC ...

We're all about a hot recession-friendly designer collabo, and in tough times like these, we're definitely not the only ones! In honor of Charlotte Ronson's new line for JC Penney, "I Heart Ronson," celebs and socialites alike gathered at NYC's Lighthouse for barbeque fare, beach volleyball, and killer dance tracks, thanks to the designer's famous DJ siblings, Mark and Samantha. The collection's fall line is said to include lots of fun florals and floaty blouses with on emphasis on flirty low-maintenance style. And while the designer and her wardrobe were naturally the focus of the evening, plenty of stylish stars were present to help share the spotlight. Mischa Barton and Alexa Chung were among some of the launch celebration's fashionable attendees, decked out in their favorite Ronson duds. Vote below on which party guest you think stole the spotlight! Photo Credit: PR Photos
