Lindsay, Shakira, And Mischa Glam It Up At The Whitney Gala

    image

The red carpet was certainly rolled out last Monday night at the annual Whitney Musuem Gala for its parade of high-profile attendees from across the film, fashion, and art industries. While guests like Shakira, Chanel Iman, and Alexa Chung discussed their own artistic talents (or lack thereof) over filet mignon appetizers, drooled over Gerard Butler, and listened to Jennifer Hudson's show-stopping mid-dinner performance, other gala-goers couldn't help but just people-watch. After all, Lindsay Lohan was quite a... vision in that daringly short gold dress. And Taylor Momsen's thigh-high slit complete with fishnet stockings was an interesting sight in the context of such a black-tie affair. Both were reportedly mistaken for the event's host, Donatella Versace -- which can either be perceived as somewhat of a compliment or... not so much. The Frisky Asks: How Much Do We Love This i-D Cover?

    image
The Frisky on Aug 27, 2009 3:27 PM PDT
A few months ago both Chanel Iman and Sessilee Lopez tweeted about a "major" moment in fashion and a surprise cover. That should have been clue enough for some folks to guess. Now the secret is out: the two young models, along with Jourdan Dunn and Arlenis Sosa, grace the cover of i.D magazine's September issue. The iconic photo features all four girls with corset-inspired tops, figure-hugging skirts, matching black gloves and shimmery makeup. It was shot in London by Emma Summerton and styled by i-D fashion director Edward Enninful. Besides featuring four of the hottest models of the moment in one sitting, this issue is distinctive for yet another reason: It is the only non-urban magazine to opt for women of color on its September cover. The popular look of menswear-inspired apparel for women dominated this season's collections with pantsuits, trousers, and double-breasted blazers and don't think it's over yet--you'll be seeing this androgynous look well into Spring too. At the Fifth Anniversary of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, models Chanel Iman and Agyness Deyn both sported menswear-inspired looks with tailored pantsuits paired with feminine accessories. Chanel showed her support for Obedient Sons And Daughters in a grey suit from their Fall 2008 collection paired with a black fur stole and suede pumps, while Agyness Deyn rocked a sleek black tuxedo suit with killer red Alejandro Ingelmo heels. We already know Alexander Wang won this year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, but who's the victor in this style showdown? Vote now!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Rosa Cha Brings Sao Paulo To ...

One thing I always love about swimwear shows is the relaxed vibe - ignore the flashing lights and tons of crowds and you may as well be laying out on the beach. As for the looks that defined Rosa Cha Spring 2009, it was impossible not to take note of their structured nature, which is so unexpected for the swimwear category. Subtle pleats and folds added an air of elegance as designer Amir Slama's Brazilian roots took hold, resulting in the kind of devastatingly sexy pieces that ensure all eyes will be- and stay- on the wearer. The color palette was minimal, but just enough not to overwhelm Slama's true prowess-- details in design. Leather belts, metal rings, and a generous smattering of Swarovski crystal and mesh stripes were the icing on the optical white and vibrant green pieces, and deep v-necks and structured bandeaus ensured the looks were equally functional and flattering on or off the runways. Model Chanel Iman's wispy, floor-length overalls had an ethereal feel, another unexpected notion when it comes to swimwear, and for a brief moment the sound of the rain pounding on the tents outside became that of waves crashing on the shores of Sao Paulo. Tyson Beckford Spills on Supermodel Bad Behavior!

I€™m not gonna lie, when I bumped into Tyson Beckford on day one of New York Fashion Week, I was pretty offended that he had no recollection of our first interview! After receiving a harsh guilt-trip by lil Breebee, Tyson, who like myself was a constant fixture in the tents, was sure to never make that mistake again. And don€™t be jealous girls, but we actually kind of became friends, and I learned quite a bit about this hunky former model. He always wears sharp suits, he€™s really upset about the Britney Spears situation and wishes everyone would just €˜leave the girl alone€™ (flashback - Tyson appeared as the hunky motorcycle driver in Brit€™s video for Toxic), he€™s got something going on with model Chanel Iman (not really sure what€™s going on there but every time she comes down the runway he trips her up by clapping and cheering, forcing her to laugh and break the signature model stone-faced stare), being kicked out of the Zac Posen show was the most embarrassing moment of his life (Zac had a no-celeb policy which Tyson was unaware of, he told me €œI€™ve been kicked out of many places before, but NEVER a fashion show), and not only is he easy on the eyes, but he€™s really down to earth and easy to talk to as well.
