Hot In The Hive: Eyeko Cosmetics Vintage Nail Polish (Looks ...

Thinking back to the Chanel Fall 2009 runway show, I can't really recall any of the details other than the colors of the models' nails. Their bright jade green fingertips took my breath away and I knew it would be the next must-have nail polish color. Fast forward to present day and I'm still trying to find a suitable duplicate of the sold-out shade, so I have to say my heart raced more than a little when I encountered this tempting promotion from Eyeko Makeup. This super cute and affordable makeup company boasts a collection of eyeshadows, mascaras, lip glosses, and nail polish. I've tried their famous Eyeko Cream which gives me a iridescent glow when I don't feel like putting on any makeup. I've returned yet again, to snag a few of their latest nail polishes and discovered they have their own version of a jade green nail polish called Vintage. Best part? It's not even for sale! Instead, they're giving it away to anybody who buys 3 or more Eyeko products (which isn't hard to do). Just enter VINTAGE in the checkout box when you order by Monday 11/23!

    Price: free with purchase!

I've had a few people ask me about the star necklace Audrey Tautou is wearing in the Chanel No. 5 print ad and TV commercial. She's wearing a piece from Chanel Fine Jewelry -- the Star Pendant in 18K white gold and diamonds from the constellation-inspired Comets collection. There's both a large and small version -- Audrey is wearing the large. Call or visit a Chanel boutique for prices, and don't forget to check out Coquette for more designer fashion finds!

LemonDrop Suggests You "Trick Or Chic" With Fashion-Inspired ...

Craving a Halloween costume that's not so much scary as it is stylish? Why not pay homage to an iconic fashion personality? From a ghoulish Karl Lagerfeld to a monstrous cat-wielding Kenley Collins, these get-ups are just right for fashionistas who are less into "boo" and more into "Goo ... cci." How about Anna Wintour? Between her pow-wow with David Letterman and the success of "The September Issue," it may just be the Year of the Icy British Editrix. Here's what you'll need:

    -elegant dress or skirt suit
    -bobbed wig with bangs
    -fabulous heels
    -devil's accessories
    -sunglasses
    -copy of Vogue
    -haughty attitude

You may not be able to snap your fingers and have a designer frock suddenly appear, but you can fake it. Simply throw on your finest skirt suit or dress (bearing in mind that Ms. Wintour does not do black), affix an inverted triangle Prada label you've cleverly made out of construction paper, stick some devil's horns atop your bobbed wig, and slap on some giant black shades. Extra points for carrying a copy of Vogue or having your giant Andre Leon Talley lookalike BFF hover behind you in a cape. Click over to Lemondrop for three more clever ideas!

    Eco-Fashionistas Choose Chic Vintage Cashmere

    image
Mary Kincaid on Oct 16, 2009 8:22 AM PDT
Cashmere, that downy layer of hair underneath a goat's belly, is 1/16th the thickness of a human hair and eight times warmer than wool. Known as "the diamond fiber" in China, cashmere is super luxurious to the touch and oh-so-comfy to wear. But choosing vintage cashmere is the most responsible option since the demand for new cashmere fashion items is creating devastating effects on the environment. The enormous herds of goats grazing on China's grasslands is creating barren dust bowls and unleashing devastating dust storms. This dust enters a highway of dirt and pollutants called the trans-Pacific transport and shows up here in North America. When you factor in these environmental costs, that new "affordable" cashmere sweater imported from China is not nearly as inexpensive as it seems. So when possible, choose vintage cashmere like the beautiful examples here. Just click the slideshow to see the selection.

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Oct 9, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a rustic barn setting for the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, and managed to switch out at least part of his signature uniform for- gasp- jeans- perhaps hinting at the lighthearted display to come. Models emerged from the barn dressed in springy versions of iconic Chanel tweed separates and frothy chiffon frocks paired with high heeled clogs and platform heels. Colors were subdued- black, white, and versions of taupe and cream made up the palette- and thus the focus remained on texture and form. Lagerfeld left the idea of wholesome, raised on the farm innocence far behind - the girls sported tattoos giving the illusion of thigh-high stockings, skirts were slit well through the thigh, and beehive buns were a tiny bit tousled as if to suggest a recent romp in the hay (pun not intended). Choosing such a strong theme is difficult as you run the risk of falling into a cliche, but Lagerfeld's execution kept the focus mostly on the clothes, and everything else was an accessory whose role was to accentuate and not distract- this is the essence of ready-to-wear, after all. The overall mood was whimsical and relaxed, striking a fine balance between luxury and accessibility and reminding us why we appreciate luxury fashion in the first place.
