Hot In The Hive: Light Pillow

    image
Alex Gambardella on Jul 28, 2009 6:17 AM PDT
Finally -- the bookworm's comfy, camouflaged alternative to the book light! This light-up pillow, designed by Linas Kutavicius, can be placed on the floor, on the bed, or even hung up as a unique wall lamp or chandelier! While I'm sure its inner metal frame keeps it from being quite as squishy and cuddly as the rest of your bed linens, its washable cover keeps the lamp soft and safe while you cozy up in your bedroom. Get your own at Generate Design. Just don't get any crazy ideas about a glow-in-the-dark pillow fight; I'm not certain the fixture is quite that multifunctional...

While we patiently (or not so patiently) wait for spring to show its sunny face from behind those looming clouds, it's important to take note of the weather we're currently stuck with and work with it by dressing and accessorizing accordingly. In other words, there's no use living in fashion denial and donning your shortest of sleeves and sunniest of dresses, determined to magically will the sun out of hiding -- you're bound to just end up drenched, freezing, or both. So whether the climate at hand is snowing, raining, hailing, monsooning, or just plain gloomy, Stylehive is here to let all you hivers know what you may have in store and how to be prepared for the weather at its worst this week. Geminis will be encouraged to brave the showers in a cute trench for the sake of staying social, Aries girls will channel the soggy weather creatively with some raindrop-inspired jewelry, and Cancers will stay productive in the face of a downpour with a water-resistant tote to keep their work dry! Check the slideshow to see how your sign can stay chic in the sleet this week, or at least until the rain goes away!

When money is tight, it can be hard to stun your peers with your stellar fashion sense. Well, fashion is like a chameleon-- it changes quickly, and adapts to everything around us, so when your fashionista within needs a good pick-me-up but you've got little money to spend, what do you do? First and foremost, focus on accessories! No matter where you go, when it comes to shopping for earrings versus shopping for a dress, it's the latter that will likely cause your ATM card to groan more. My favorite things to add to rejuvenate any outfit are bold earrings, and whether they're big, colorful, or just downright weird, there's always the perfect earring out there to make any outfit complete- and plenty of cheap, cute options at that. Check out my slideshow to find plently of modestly priced ear candy that's guaranteed to make any outfit!

Home How To: Decorating Without A Bail-Out Package!

Many of us have resolved to spend less in 2009 and I like to think that all the post-holiday sales are working in our favor. Whether it's scoring that perfect wool coat for 75% off at your favorite department store or marching from sample sale to sample sale to find brag-worthy items to show your friends, being smart with your money is very "in." Many times though, we forget about shopping for our home for whatever reason, but it doesn't mean it's no less important. Besides, wouldn't you want a home just as stylish as the contents of your closet? While this "recessionista" trend is in, there's no need to exclusively shop from the ever ubiquitous Swedish home furnishing store (you know the one I'm talking about). You can still get high quality goods at a huge discount if you know where to look! Get 4 martini or white wine glasses for less than $15 at Macy's or upgrade that bare bulb in your living room with a chic chandelier inspired by nature. Hot In The Hive: The Call-To-Dinner Chandelier

The rustic look has never been my cup of tea when it comes to interior design. While there's nothing wrong with wicker furniture and distressed wood, I have a more sleek and modern taste for home decor. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came across the Call-To-Dinner Chandelier and really liked it! A great look in an open kitchen, the dangling forks and spoons would glint in the light as well as cast interesting shadows throughout the room. If you're anything like me and love a healthy dose of modern design, maybe it's time to bring a little bit of the rustic countryside into your life.
