Modern, Non-Stuffy Wing Chairs For Stylish Lounging

For some reason, wingback chairs have gotten an unfortunate reputation for being in the homes of the old and stuffy. Your grandfather may have had an imposing tufted leather wingback chair you wouldn't dare touch. But the old and stuffy were definitely onto something with these chairs. They're designed to be super comfortable and offer some great support in case you ever dose off. The winged nature of the chair gives a place for your head to rest when you start tilting to the side. Now you know why your grandfather loved that chair so much! These days, you don't have to look stodgy when sitting in a wing chair. In fact, many styles these days mesh well with your modern decor. Some like the Painted Dot iChair with built-in speakers from PB Teen are downright playful! Another one of my favorites is the Lambert recliner for maximum comfort when reading or taking a quick nap. Home How To: Decorating Without A Bail-Out Package!

Many of us have resolved to spend less in 2009 and I like to think that all the post-holiday sales are working in our favor. Whether it's scoring that perfect wool coat for 75% off at your favorite department store or marching from sample sale to sample sale to find brag-worthy items to show your friends, being smart with your money is very "in." Many times though, we forget about shopping for our home for whatever reason, but it doesn't mean it's no less important. Besides, wouldn't you want a home just as stylish as the contents of your closet? While this "recessionista" trend is in, there's no need to exclusively shop from the ever ubiquitous Swedish home furnishing store (you know the one I'm talking about). You can still get high quality goods at a huge discount if you know where to look! Get 4 martini or white wine glasses for less than $15 at Macy's or upgrade that bare bulb in your living room with a chic chandelier inspired by nature. To see more home bargains you'll be proud to show off, click the slideshow.

Show Some Love With Valentine's Day Decor

    image

Whether you're hosting an intimate party for two or a little less exclusive party for 200, it's time to plan the decorations for your Valentine's Day celebration. While I've found a bunch of heart and love-themed decor accents and accessories that may seem a little too saccharine sweet, they're ok in low doses. A silver-plated sentiment picture frame from Pottery Barn is a nice reminder of your sweetheart. Fresh from a breakup and don't have a special someone this year? Someone out there may have the "key to a broken heart" or at least have one hanging on your wall. Curious to see how you can decorate your home for the most romantic day of the year without causing a bad toothache? Take a peek at my slideshow!

You obsess over your favorite designer's dresses, shoes, and much more, but have you ever considered sitting or even sleeping on one of their coveted designs? Bring high fashion into your home by investing in a piece from your favorite label's home decor collection. That's right, a growing number of fashion designers are dabbling in interior design, and translating their runway style into fashionable home furnishings and accessories. Not only do these pieces exude the designers' distinct styles and tastes, but they're created to look chic in a variety of settings and for much longer than one season. Dine on Missoni, curl up in Ralph Lauren bedding, or sit pretty on a decadent Versace chair all in the comforts of your home. For more ideas on ways to bring high fashion into your home, search the Hive, and also be sure to check out my SLIDESHOW for my five favorite designer home finds.

Home Style: Give Your Pad That 60s, Mad-Men Look!

    image

If you're as obsessed with Mad Men as I am you've probably, like me, taken to wearing full skirts with ladylike blouses lately and started fantasizing about shag rugs and in-office bars (and two-martini lunches). If you're really obsessed - and who could blame you, those sets are fabulous- you might even be thinking about redoing your pad in Mad Men's Mid-Century Modern style. The Mid-Century look was all about clean lines and unpretentious functionality - add in some era-appropriate accessories like a corded rotary phone, a Olivetti manual typewriter, and a flowery apron hanging in the kitchen, and you'll be well on your way to living la vida Mad Men! Want to create a 60s makeover on a budget? Check out my slideshow of Urban Outfitters finds that look as though they were whisked straight from the set of Mad Men!
