Couture Designer B. Michael, Others Show At 6th Annual ...

San Francisco, California. That may not be the first city you think of when it comes to fashion, but on July 25th, they held their 6th annual Fashion On The Square event at the Intercontinental Hotel. FOTS is not only a fashion show, but also gives back to the community. Brands and designers like Fabulosity by Kimora Lee Simmons, Apple Bottoms, and Old Navy and childrenswear stores such as Gymboree and Janie and Jack participated in the show and many of the models used were aspiring models from the area. FOTS also supports organizations such as K.I.D.S., Wardrobe For Opportunity and Fashion Delivers, providing clothing for children and young adults, as well as Hurricane Katrina victims. All the support given back to the community is more than appreciated, but it is a fashion event first and foremost and the best part of the show had to be the creations by up-and-coming couture designer b. michael. The clean lines and sophisticated look of b.michael's designs were hard to miss as models, including ANTM alum Marjorie, strutted their stuff down the catwalk. Separates were a modern take on business inspired wear and evening gowns were fluid and elegant and celebrated the female form. Beautiful designs, cutting edge fashion, charity fund-raising, stellar performances... sounds more like L.A. than San Francisco! Check out some behind the scene shots and runway footage in the video and slideshow!

Amsterdam International Fashion Week: Collectie Arnhem

The Fashion Institute Arnhem is famous for its designers. Big stars like Viktor & Rolf and Spijkers & Spijkers all studied at the institute. This year they introduced us to some of their top graduates. In order of appearance: Maryam Kordbacheh, Rudolph Holmond, Felicia Mak and Lisa Weinberg.

Maryam Kordbacheh's collection is called €˜the sexuality of flowers€™ and is about the intimacy between the cloth and the female body. The organic shapes of nature come back into her designs. All pieces were moulded and handcrafted and she used techniques such as hand dying and hand pleating. With the use of all natural materials such as silk, cotton, silk jersey, silk tulle and silk cashmere, Kordbacheh created experimental pieces that women can wear, and at the same time, adore. Rudolph Holmond's collection is called 'Posturbia' -- derived from positive disturbia but also post-urban. It shows a real slim and smart silhouette combined with some more baggy items. The fabrics are a clash between traditional materials like flannel, wool, and cottons and more modern materials such as shiny plastic and transparent voiles. The collection titled 'if you melt a suit, you get a dress' from starting designer Felicia Mak is based on the idea of a striptease from a suit, slowly into a dress and inspired by Dita von Teese. The shapes are developed by taking a tailleur and producing it into softer and more feminine materials. The colours are based on the black and white contrast of a suit, the naked skin and sensual shades of orange. Lisa Weinberg€™s collection is called 'Dawn.' Dawn emphasizes her special interest for developing her own textile and print designs. Mohair, latex, copper, silks and organza are all dyed by hand into colours of sunrise. Embroidery and hand painted prints, techniques which enhance the original fabrics, are incorporated in the collection. See the slideshow for collection pieces from these featured fashion week designers.

Fashionindie Week Brooklyn: New York Couture Brings Down the ...

Last night's New York Couture party and fashion show at Mansion was two super hot floors of style scenesters who came to see Cassie Kogler and her models rock it on the runway, and rock it they did! DJ Benny Blanco spun up a storm as the crowd went wild for Kogler's unapologetically outrageous punk-rock-meets-prima-ballerina creations. Oversized tutus, hoop skirts, metallic leggings, and brightly printed dresses were topped off with big hair and glittery makeup, and the models (who partied with the crowd before the show) were easily having as much fun as the partygoers themselves- but would you really expect anything different from a designer who puts panda faces on dresses? Didn't think so!
