Hot Leggings For Fall's Cold Weather

    image
Amber Fijolek on Oct 20, 2009 10:22 AM PDT
Why not add a whole new meaning to the term "hot pants?" Most of the time, all we ask of our leggings is that they're comfortable and versatile enough to throw underneath our favorite tops. When the colder weather strikes, however, we need a lil' something extra if we plan on leaving the house. The blustery winds can be enough to make you want to wear nothing but sweats, but the change of season doesn't mean you need to sacrifice looking cute in order to stay warm. Whether you're sick of them or not, leggings aren't going anywhere soon, so while that's more than we can say about summer, we've got some cold-weather safe picks to add to your legging collection Heavier fabrics from jeans and sweater materials to velvet and suede are one way to keep your tush toasty. And don't underestimate simple additions such as patches, zips and buttons to give your garment just a little something extra when facing the fall. Regardless of temperature, any of this season's takes on the now-staple, skin-tight classic are bound to make you look hot: it's not about the warmth your leggings will bring you this upcoming season -- it's about the heat the new season will bring to your leggings to make you look hotter than ever!

    Eco-Fashionistas Choose Chic Vintage Cashmere

    image
Mary Kincaid on Oct 16, 2009 8:22 AM PDT
Cashmere, that downy layer of hair underneath a goat's belly, is 1/16th the thickness of a human hair and eight times warmer than wool. Known as "the diamond fiber" in China, cashmere is super luxurious to the touch and oh-so-comfy to wear. But choosing vintage cashmere is the most responsible option since the demand for new cashmere fashion items is creating devastating effects on the environment. The enormous herds of goats grazing on China's grasslands is creating barren dust bowls and unleashing devastating dust storms. This dust enters a highway of dirt and pollutants called the trans-Pacific transport and shows up here in North America. When you factor in these environmental costs, that new "affordable" cashmere sweater imported from China is not nearly as inexpensive as it seems. So when possible, choose vintage cashmere like the beautiful examples here. Just click the slideshow to see the selection.

How To Survive A Red-Eye Flight And Still Look Good

    image
Anna Yu on May 13, 2009 4:21 PM PDT
In theory, red-eye flights are great for people who don't want to waste the daytime traveling. It's definitely handy for those who want to immediately start their day at their destination instead of landing in the afternoon or evening. The first time I ever had a red-eye flight, I was stuck in the middle seat, couldn't get any sleep, and arrived at my destination with-- you guessed it, red eyes. Since my disastrous red-eye, I've learned ways to survive and even look good when I arrive. Staying hydrated is key, because nothing is worse than dry skin, chapped lips, and red eyes. While you still cannot bring your own water before the security check point, I like to bring an empty water bottle and ask a flight attendant to fill it up when I'm on the plane. While on the plane, either bring your own blanket and pillow or use the airline's, plop on an eye mask with cooling gel, and you'll be amazed at how refreshed you'll look when you arrive. Check out my slideshow for more red-eye flight survival items from mini lint rollers to multi-tasking makeup!
