Video Style Steal: Carrie Underwood's Boots Walk All Over ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 5, 2009 10:25 AM PST
Carrie Underwood has come a long way since her "small-town girl with the big voice" image on American Idol. Lucky for that image of hers, she's ditched the demure deer-in-headlights look and swapped it for an assertive attitude to match her sultry voice. I guess a load of confidence is easy to come by when you have a series of hit singles and Chace Crawford as your former arm-candy! Speaking of exes, in her latest video for "Cowboy Casanova," Carrie hits the saloon looking retro-fabulous to warn girls about a bad boy's particularly womanizing ways... and shows him a thing or two! Don't forget -- Halloween is officially in the dust, so don't go full-on saloon girl when you try this look. Instead, stick to inspired pieces like a bustier dress, cute leather booties, and feather accents that only hint at Carrie's costume-y video. Watch the video, and then check out the slideshow to see how you can go western without looking like you stepped out of a time machine.

Which Country Cutie Had The Winning Look At The Academy Of ...

Okay, I have to admit -- I used to hate country music. From the slow twangy accents to the depressingly lame lyrics about dead dogs and barbecue stains and broken hearts, I just could never get into it... until recently! With the invasion of young powerhouse vocalists like Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood ("Last Name" -- finally a country song I can relate to! Just kidding...) and down-to-earth lyrics from the likes of Taylor Swift and Sugarland, today's country seems to have adopted a hipper vibe, a more rock-ish sound, and an overall edgier quality that gives the genre a more modern infectious energy and mass worldwide appeal! And to celebrate such musical innovation, the Academy of Country Music Awards honored music mavens young and old in Las Vegas this past Sunday, and if the genre's leading ladies weren't already enviable enough in their awards-sweeping talent and golden-haired good looks, their glamorous red carpet gowns almost stole the show out of their own hands! Carrie Underwood, the night's biggest winner, toned down her usual sparkle with a fairytale-esque pastel ensemble, while Taylor Swift donned a mature one-shoulder red gown by Angel Sanchez that matched both the carpet and the backdrop, yet had her standing out just the same! Vote below on which of country's biggest stars made the best red carpet appearance! Photo Credit: PR Photos

American Idol's Glam Squad Gets Its Hands On Season 8's Top ...

So far, Season 8 of American Idol has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions and surprises. To name just a few, we've seen tension with the addition of new judge Kara DioGuardi, the surprise announcement of a top 13 instead of the traditional 12 (yay Anoop!), the premature elimination of pint-sized powerhouse Alexis Grace, the introduction of the judges' power to save one contestant from the looming doom of dismissal, and Paula Abdul's inability to complete a coherent sentence (okay, so that's no surprise). One thing that has remained consistent however, is Stylehive's favorite part of the show -- contestant makeovers! We saw former Idol favorites Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood go from drab to fab from their seasons' auditions to their final stages, and the show's Glam Squad, a team of stylists that help shop for looks for the show's performances and results shows, is once again having their way with this year's finalists (and boy did some of them need it)! From Anoop Desai's transformation from nerdy college kid to urban RnB star-in-the-making to Matt Giraud's reworked wardrobe to match his Justin Timberlake sound-alike voice, this season's Idol hopefuls are not only turning out to be the most lovable set of singers, but the most stylish too! Don't forget to watch the show on this week's special day and time tomorrow, Wednesday at 8, to see how the Top 10 fare in performance and poshness, and in the meantime check out the slideshow for more pictures of this season's Glam Squad makeovers! See Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, And More Of Music's ...

Chris Brown and Rihanna may have been suspiciously missing in action, and M.I.A. herself might have been ready to pop right on the red carpet (and then again on stage!), but as they say in show-biz, "the show must go on" - and last night's Grammy Awards certainly did! With toe-tapping performances by unexpected collaborations like the Jonas Brothers with Stevie Wonder and Justin Timberlake with Al Green, the night was loaded with off-your-seat energy... and the red carpet was no less stunning as the arrivals kicked off the night in jaw-dropping gowns and glamour galore! Teary-eyed winner and performer Jennifer Hudson was elegantly posh in a black-and-white cocktail dress contrasted with blue suede heels and Katy Perry ditched her usual mega-short mini-dress (apparently she was saving it for her performance) and opted for a classy pink floor-length gown by Basil Soda. Teen queens (also old Jo-Bro flames and apparently new "BFFs") Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift both looked polished in long black dresses on the carpet, then went casual-chic in jeans and boots for their somber onstage duet... and Carrie Underwood was predictably prepossessing in a long sparkly sheath as usual. Check out the slideshow for more glam Grammy red carpet arrivals! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Celeb Style: 8 Maxi Dresses Both Sexy AND Forgiving

Forget minis for the moment. To compensate for the return of more body-conscious, form-fitting silhouettes, designers have thrown us all a bone and brought back the maxi dress to give us a chic way to cover it up when we€™re facing that inevitable battle of the bloat. The maxi is a rare breed of clothing, one which manages to be sexy despite offering tons of coverage. Choose a style with a plunging neckline, show off the always seductive neckline with a strapless or halter style, hug your curves in a body-skimming style, or hide them behind a more billowy silhouette. There are tons of amazing maxi's out there, so check out my SLIDESHOW for some of my favorites.

Style Poll: How Do You Rate Carrie Underwood's Post-Split Look?

    image
Sabrina Newman on Apr 8, 2008 2:16 PM PDT
What€™s a gal to do after a devastating breakup? Get a hot new €˜do to show the bum what he€™s missing, obviously! Post-split from Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford, country crooner Carrie Underwood did just that, showing off a new look at the Idol Gives Back concert and taking the whole "I€™m better off without him" adage up a notch by telling reporters just how fine she is, saying: €œI don€™t dislike him... We're both fine€¦We broke up over text so€¦It's like 'peace out'.'" Carrie's old hairstyle was classic country with a modern twist, while the new one is a bit more sophisticated - but does that mean better?
