Recession Chic: Navigating the Summer Sale Racks With Fall in ...

    image
    on Aug 14, 2008 1:48 PM PDT
Sure, there are loads of deals this time of year, but let's face it - you're so over summer and ready to start building your fall wardrobe! But if you know what to look for while searching the sale racks this time of year, you can score some essential transition pieces that you can wear today, and straight through the fall! Here are the key things to look for: 1) Color palette: blacks and greys are year-round basics that work for all seasons, so scoop 'em up if you find a bargain! But don't rule out brights, jewel tones, and winter whites - these can look really chic with black or charcoal-colored tights, or peeking out from underneath your darker fall layers. 2) Layering: before you go pigeon-holing short-sleeved or sleeveless garments automatically into the "summer" box under your bed, keep in mind that the right accessories (scarves, tights, turtlenecks, cardigans and boots) will make even a sleeveless dress stretch into the winter months! Click READ MORE for two other transitioning tips, and click on the SLIDESHOW for the items that'll take you into fall (psst, they're waaaaaaay on sale)!

Style Steal: Get Mary-Kate Olsen's Wacky "Wackness" Style

While Hills villain Spencer Pratt thinks Mary-Kate Olsen should focus more on not getting dressed in the dark than on dissing him (all she said was that he had a bad temper, a point proven by his response to the statement), I happen to love this mini-mogul's undone, thrown together style. MK showed up at the screening of her new dramedy, The Wackness, in a hippie-esque vintage Lanvin dress, accessorized with quirky orange pumps, a navy clutch (because color-coordinating is just so over) and a wide corset belt to cinch her teeny tiny waist for a look that was fantastically funky and contained all the quirkiness we've come to know and love from this little lady. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get her fabulous look.

    image

Some things are just better left in 2007, so that tote that you can fit your life into just isn't going to cut it as your handbag of choice for the party of the year. That said, there are quite a few clutches that are very well worth hanging onto, but by the look of the ten super chic clutches we're about to show you in our slideshow, picking just one isn't going to be easy. Our solution: more parties means more party accessories, so clear your schedule and let those clutches come out to play!
