Good Girl Gone Bad: 10 Floral Looks That Aren't Quite So Nice

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Jul 13, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
If you don't pay much attention to fashion, certain trends can appear confusing. That floral dress/leather jacket combo? Cute, but misleading. Sure, floral dresses are feminine and dainty, but leather jackets send forth an entirely different message, and so the untrained eye is left wondering just what was going through your head when you got dressed, which could be any of the following:

    a) You feel the need to wear elements that together create juxtaposition.
    b) You don't want to look too sweet or too tough, so you combine the two and look confused.
    c) You were cold.

Or maybe it's none of the above and I just completely over-analyzed the entire scenario (oops). But given that unexpected pairings are what make fashion so captivating, there's nothing wrong with sending a totally confusing, what-on-earth-is-she-wearing message from time to time, and with all of these embellished floral pieces I've been seeing, sending that message is easier and more stylish than ever-- think studs, zippers, chains, and buckles wreaking all sorts of havoc on the sweetest of florals. Rag & Bone's Spring/Summer 2009 collection said it best with a black leather/silk floral sheath dress that was equal parts feminine and fierce. Click on the slideshow for 10 more floral pieces that aren't interested in playing nice.

The most recent issue of Elle Accessories showcases fall's top accessory trends, and "Waist Watchers," a selection of bold belts that you won't find just anywhere, is definitely one to watch. These aren't your ordinary belts- they're oozing with hardware and embellishments and will take your look from dull to daring in a flash. You can cinch them at the natural waist for a polished, feminine hourglass silhouette or sling them low on the hips for a cool, casual vibe. And belts show no signs of disappearing anytime soon, so it's a good idea to invest in one or two that will update your wardrobe and brighten your day. Why not buckle up one of Elle's head-turning picks instead of that old basic you've worn a million times? Don't miss page 151 of the mag for some eye-catching finds, check out our slideshow for even more, and conquer the holiday season with some brave new belts!

Get The Rough And Tumble Rocker Look On A Recession-Chic Budget!

Fashion trends come and go and I'm always hesitant about spending the big bucks on a super-trendy item (like those knee high gladiator boots I only wore once). But just because everyone is keeping their wallets in their bags rather than at the registers these days, it doesn't mean you have to forgo trendy looks all together! One of my favorite trends for fall is the rough and tumble rocker look. It's edgy, yet sophisticated so you'll definitely score some admirers the next time you go out, yet you'll still look tough enough to handle the mean streets. Look to Kate Moss or Rihanna for rockin' style inspiration. Think you'll have to pay an arm and a leg to achieve this look? Guess again! I've created a head-to-toe look and each item is less than $50. So check out my SLIDESHOW for a rockin' outfit that won't break the bank!

Booties, Shooties, and Ankle Boots Galore!

    image
Sabrina Yeung on Sep 27, 2008 12:52 PM PDT
As much as I hate to subscribe to huge trends, I've succumbed to this one...my booty wants a pair of booties! You wouldn't think they'd be universally flattering, but now there's such a variety of styles out there that you're bound to find a pair out there that make your gams look good. They're just too irresistibly cute when paired opaque tights or skinny jeans. Whatever you may call them - booties, ankle boots, shooties (shoes x booties), there's so many out there to pick from - from suede to belted, cut out to peep toe, studded to ruched. That's why I need your help to pick a pair out, or, you can just take a look at my slideshow for your own shopping entertainment. Since I'm a shorty, of course they all have heels, that's just the way I roll.

Everyone loves those statement pieces, but lets face it, no one can live without the basics. Good thing LadyNinjitsu has you covered. Just one look at her Hive will have you re-evaluating your 'needs and wants'. For one, her choices for essentials should win her a black belt in shopping. Her picks are versatile and dangerously appropriate for all times. A Fornarina buckled boot and an Asos extra wide belt goes with virtually anything you have in or out of your closet! So, click on the SLIDESHOW to see how everyday essentials can also be conversation starters, too.
