Shoe of the Week: The Melissa 'Ashanti' Bootie

    image

While the first thought of plastic shoes brings me back to my childhood summers playing in parks while wearing jelly shoes, they're not something I'd typically wear today. However, Brazil-based Melissa Shoes has been on my fashion radar for the last few years and I think I'm ready to take the plunge into plastic shoes again. If you're not familiar with Melissa, you may have heard some of the other world class designers the company has worked with including Vivienne Westwood, Alexandre Herchcovitch, and there's an upcoming collaboration with Jean-Paul Gaultier. Following their motto "Plastic Dreams, Melissa has produced 50 million pairs of shoes over the past 25 years in an eco-friendly way. The Melissa Ashanti bootie has completely charmed me with its fashion-forward silhouette and since they're completely waterproof, I can finally say goodbye to my clunky rain boots.

    What: the Melissa 'Ashanti' bootie
    Price: $88
    Where to Buy: revolveclothing.com
Who: facadeindreams was the first to add the Melissa 'Ashanti' bootie to the Hive!

Line To Watch: Finsk By Julia Lundsten

When Manolo Blahnik uses words like "exquisite, "divine," and "perfect" to describe your shoe designs, you know you're on the up and up (and not just in terms of heel height). That's exactly where designer Julia Lundsten is going with her line Finsk. Launched in 2004, her collection of crazy designs and quirky, sculptural heels has her dubbed as the Eames of footwear. While attending London's Royal College of Art she won the prestigious Manolo Blahnik Award 2 years in a row. Her inspiration from architecture and furniture is visible in the details of her shoes. Her love of furniture design extends to her way of thinking too -- considering the heel and the sole as the chair's legs and the upper as the seat, her shoes always seem to cradle the foot perfectly. With an unconventional style, the pumps, ankle booties, and boots all feature heels hand-carved from sustainable hard woods from Brazil. If that doesn't get you walking tall, I don't know what will! Check out the slideshow to see some of her signature styles.

Sao Paolo Fashion Week's Hottest Male Models, Just Because

Some girls have all the luck-- and just this once, I was one of them. I just returned from Sao Paulo Fashion Week in Brazil where I got a chance to check out dozens of the country's most amazing brands from international stars Alexandre Herchcovitch to local-- and very campy-- heroes like Dudu Bertholini, co-designer of Neon. As wonderful as the haute couture was, it didn't hold a candle to the hot boys who modeled them. Some were blonds, others brunettes, others red heads-- and all sexy. There really were too many to choose from, but I made the Herculean effort required to narrow it down to my top ten.

Say Hello To Retro Cut Swim Suits!

    image
Pauline Montupet on May 8, 2009 10:22 AM PDT
Despite what may be going on in Brazil, the trend this spring isn't squint-and-you'll-miss-it bikinis. This summer it's all about the pinup-girl-inspired swimwear: high-waisted bikinis, sweetheart necklines and hourglass silhouettes. These vintage inspired bikinis are perfect for playing some beach blanket bingo or hitting the hottest luau. Inspired by fabulous pin up girls of the 50's and surf goddesses of the 60's these bikinis have a sweetly sexy vibe, proving that sometimes less skin is more. Elizabeth O'Brien Berg, a line based out of Brooklyn, NY is a great line of vintage inspired cut swimsuits. The suits are cute, sexy, retro, ruffled, and slightly vampy. Even Victoria's Secret has hopped on the retro sexy trend with great and affordable suits. If you have a boyish figure, look for suits with a high-waisted bottoms to give you that hourglass shape. Lacking a bit on top? These retro bikinis with ruffles and bows on top are perfect to give a little oommph. Check out the SLIDESHOW to view more modern-day pinup style bikinis in stores.

Gotta Getaway? Take A Trip To The Future at the Hotel Cocoon ...

Summer is on its way and it would be great to go somewhere to soak up the sun and enjoy all that summer is about! Sunshine, tans, refreshing drinks and scantily clad men! Hmm.... sounds like Brazil to me! With the current economic state, however, 5-star luxury hotels may be a little too much for the budget. However, that does not mean you have to settle for less than amazing! The Hotel Cocoon in Salvador, Brazil is the perfect hotel to meet all your traveling needs! Cocoon Hotel boasts that it is the first "space-ship" hotel. The theme is decidedly "space-ship", but more like the 1980's idea of futuristic space decor. It almost looks like a place the Jetsons would go for a vacation! The decor is minimalist with chrome-trimmed edges, circular free-standing sinks and oval windows. Sleek marble floors and wood-paneling complete the feel. Beds are elevated on platforms and amenities include 24-hour concierge service, continental breakfasts everyday, a multi-colored pool and lounge area. The service is superb and the traditional Brazilian food is delicious! Salvador de Bahia used to be the capital city of Brazil and Cocoon Hotel is near all the right places to make your trip to Brazil an enjoyable one! It is near the beach and has splendid views of All Saint's Bay and the Island of Itapanica. For a little sightseeing, there is always Corredor da Vitoria, Municipal Square and famed Pelourinho Square in close vicinity and traditional Brazilian performances go on nightly! Get ready for summer and start planning an amazing and affordable vacation to Brazil today! Check out the slideshow for a look into Hotel Cocoon, Brazil!
