Fashion Week London: Luella Bartley Spring 2010 Ready to Wear ...

Luella Bartley recently presented her Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection at London Fashion Week. Her new collection goes dressier and less cheeky than we've come to expect from Bartley. It would be easy to imagine the late Jackie Kennedy wearing these pieces in 1965. Silhouettes were very feminine, with princess seams, pinched waists, and padded hips. She also showed several summer weight car coats in very ladylike "trapeze" shapes in happy, gorgeous colors, like a not-too-baby blue and a wonderful lipstick-y red. Other pieces included puffy dresses with velvet polka dots, sweetheart necklines, and Peter Pan collars. Bartley's recent collections have been far more precious with an abundance of frilly touches like dainty flower prints, ribbons, and tulle. By comparison, the latest collection is much more dressed up, despite the sugar pinks and lemon yellows. Even the one or two dresses with tulle trim appeared more sophisticated than one might expect from a designer who does things in an unapologetically girly way. Our 10 Favorite Fancy Coats For Winter

    image
Lisanne Silverman on дек 29, 2008 1:18 PM PST
One of my favorite things about winter is the many, many chances I get to wear my favorite coats, and the way they add elegance to everything from skirts and tights to casual denim. But sometimes an event (or just an outfit) comes up and not just any coat will do-- this is where dressy coats come in. Ruffles, pleats, bows, and dramatic details make these coats the star of any outfit. And don't for a second think that you have to spend a fortune to add one of these to your wardrobe- Topshop's ruffle coat is just $145 and the deep purple hue and folded ruffle detail give it that one of a kind flair you'll want to show off all year! Click the slideshow for 9 more of our favorite fancy coats for winter.

The holidays are upon us, and while I seem to be spending most of my time squeezing women into shapewear so they'll look good in their holiday party dresses, I thought it might be fun to look at the lighter side of holiday lingerie. Sweaters and socks seem to be the most popular holiday items, but one can easily find a multitude of holiday-inspired lingerie. They range from simple holiday prints on otherwise normal undergarments to sexy costume-like lingerie that would definitely make Santa blush! Check out the slideshow for some fun ideas, and have a happy holiday!

We're Head Over Heels For These Handmade Headpieces!

Feathers, flowers, and over-sized bows- oh my! These adorable headpieces are literally popping up everywhere from the Spring '09 collections of Luella and Diane von Furstenberg even to my Friday night out. I'm going to shy away from terms like "headgear," as I've heard the word used to describe these accessories, but frankly I find it a bit off-putting and rather inaccurate and it kind of reminds me of those awkward childhood sleepovers when at bedtime a new friend put on this elaborate mechanical device to my shock and utter horror. But back to the matter at hand, these adorable headpieces that stole our hearts as children are once again finding their way atop our heads. Using the all-things-handmade online marketplace Etsy, young and innovative designers are making quite a splash (and some cash) with these charming creations and the creative competition has skyrocketed, yielding a plethora of designs to choose from. From delicate feather arrangements to floral garnishes all the way to whimsical scenes, these headpieces make it possible to adorn your head with pretty much whatever you please! Some of my favorite headpiece designers available on Etsy are portobello, charmschooldesign, and twelvetwentyeight. These crafty ladies have me reminiscing about my childhood (and no, not in the bedtime-braces kind of way) and they definitely have me clicking on PayPal. Take a gander at some of my favorite headpieces in my slideshow and also be sure to stop by their Etsy shops to see more!

Fancy Panties, Because It's What's Underneath That Counts

Every chic outfit must have sexy stylish underpinnings as well. One of the hottest trends right now in intimates is fancy panties ... the more bells and whistles, the better. Some of these elaborate details include sexy side ties, flirty ruffles, peek-a-boo skirts, embroidered appliques, delicate bows and luxurious laces. There's no need to reserve these fancy panties for dates with that special someone, wear them to the office or while running errands to add a sexy boost to your day. Don't worry, it can be your little secret. For a preview of this season's pretty little things, check out the SLIDESHOW!
