    Get Charlize Theron's Sexy-Sleek Look

    image
Sabrina Newman on Nov 6, 2009 12:18 PM PST
At the 13th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala the always striking Charlize Theron was a true vision in black. The bombshell paired a sleek leather skirt with a strapless top from The Row, creating a sexy yet sophisticated silhouette. She injected touches of color into the look with a Bottega Veneta clutch, a pair of diamond-accented pumps and a turquoise ring. By taking a minimal approach to the accessories, Charlize kept the look polished and chic and allowed her natural beauty to really shine. A leather pencil skirt is definitely a must-have this season and is super versatile. Wear it with a sexy top like Charlize or tone it down by teaming it with a billowy blouse or a sharp blazer. Back To The Classics: Our Top Five Designer Handbags

    image

It seems that after many seasons of excess and "it" bags, the fashion industry has come back to reality. It might be the sobering effects of the economic downturn that's making us look towards the classics. Then again, most of us could never actually afford a new designer bag each season to begin with. So instead of using your tax return on a few trendy items that will make you wonder why the heck you bought them come the next season, put your money into something that will last. Classic handbags never go out of season and look good with nearly every outfit. Yes, they may cost quite a lot of money, but these top designer bags are impeccably made and will last you nearly a lifetime. Don't believe me? I have an old Chanel purse from my grandmother to prove it. The Chanel 2.55 bag is the traditional flap bag. It was first introduced in February 1955 by the ever-practical Coco Chanel, who wanted a hands-free bag with a shoulder strap. The 2.55 comes in one size only, but it's the perfect size, small enough for evening, yet big enough to also use during the day. With its classic shape and iconic status, the Hermes Birkin bag is the holy grail of handbags. The wait list may have died down since its feature on "Sex and the City", but if you don't want to wait or pay full price, eBay and Portero.com are great places to look for them second-hand. No one can argue that the Louis Vuitton Speedy is a classic-- it has been Louis Vuitton's best selling bag since Audrey Hepburn made it popular. Get it in the black or colored Epi leather to avoid getting sick of the logo. Some newer additions to the classic bag line up are the Yves Saint Laurent Muse bag and the Bottega Veneta Intrecciato bags. The Muse was introduced in 2006 and has been a bestseller ever since. The Intrecciato bag from Bottega, otherwise known as the woven bag, is buttery soft, beautifully made, and has become an instant classic, with has a slightly lower price tag than some of the other investment bags. Kick Around In A Pair Of Loafers This Summer

The fail-safe shoes known as the loafers haven't changed much over the past 10 years. They are simple, masculine and may be great for warmer weather, but these classic shoes are appropriate for year-round use. Loafers are one of the most effortless pieces of footwear a man can have in his wardrobe. I mean, all you have to do is slip them on and go. It can't get any easier than that. I am proud of my sole pair of Ferragamo loafers. In fact, they are one of my most coveted items in my closet. I keep them in a fireproof safe in there. They are uncomplicated, black and are beautifully constructed (what pair of Italian shoes aren't?). If Ferragamo isn't your cup of tea, go for the classicism of Gucci horse-bit loafers or the modernized Johnston & Murphy tassle loafer. But if you're one of those guys who want your feet to get attention, opt for the blue Cole Haan penny loafers or the zest of Ted Baker's Aglio loafers. Need something a little more flashy, yet subtle? Bottega Veneta has some basket woven kicks for you. Then there is the whole issue on whether to go sock-less when wearing loafers. There's no crime in showing some ankle, but if you're like me and have an irrational fear of going nude below the ankles, Banana Republic has the perfect remedy: no-show loafer socks. Here are some other loafer ideas to kick around.

Style Essentials: Our Top Ten Comfortable And Stylish Cardigans

If you were to send me off to a desert island and only allowed me to bring 5 pieces of clothing, one of those items would definitely be a cardigan. At any given moment you can find me wearing a cardigan while eating brunch with friends, running errands around town, or even going out dancing. It's one of the most versatile pieces of clothing a person can have! It's great in wintertime for some serious cold weather layering or wear it as a light jacket in the warmer months. There are lots of cardigan styles out there and while all of them would look good with jeans and a t-shirt (then again, what doesn't look good with jeans?), some may look funny if you pair it with a dress. I know I'm not alone in loving cardigans. As the press is going wild over Michelle Obama and her clothing choices, one of her style signatures is a cardigan. Whether she's wearing one over a sheath dress or slacks, she always manages to look fabulous. What's her secret? It's all about the proportions and how clothing falls on the curves of your body. That means you should always buy something that fits you and not the mannequin! Keep reading for a taste of our top 10 cardigan styles and how to wear them, and be sure to check out the slideshow for more ideas.

    It's a Mad Men World!

Does Joan Holloway make you covet a time machine to retrieve her body-hugging style? Never fear, for this season's designers have embraced the curve-loving silhouettes of the 60s. AMC got it right in the costume department - Mad Men's ladies have the look down cold. Channel your inner Jackie O by pairing a gorgeous strand of pearls with a belted dress, like this gorgeous green Escada. For a more casual look, make like the equestrian Betty Draper and try a swing riding jacket with skinny jeans and boots. Work week chic? No problem -- try a wool cap sleeve dress like this Bottega Veneta and you're sure to turn heads! Check out the slideshow to start your journey to the fabulous silhouettes of the past! And if you still can't get enough, add some Mad Men style to your apartment too!
