Get The Sexy Nerd Look Inspired By Jenni Kayne Fall '09

    image

Jenni Kayne is best known for her classically chic pieces that are a perfect fusion of wearability and edge. For Fall '09, she added some nerdy touches to her designs, including large rimmed glasses, menswear inspired pants, and boyfriend blazers that look oh-so-cool and perfect for fall. A loose fitting leather mini skirt paired with opaque tights is sexy enough for night, yet the roomy fit and the covered legs make it totally day appropriate as well! Pair the skirt with a bone colored draped tee and a black boyfriend blazer when the winter chill starts to roll in for the perfect sexy nerd look. The final touches? A large wooden bead necklace and some totally sexy nerd round-framed spectacles. Check out the slideshow to see how to get the look yourself!

Stay Comfortably Chic This Fall In Classic Corduroy!

With Halloween and Thanksgiving lurking right around the corner, there's no denying that the fall season and its considerably cooler weather has descended upon us. There are the basic fall fabrics that immediately come to mind - worsted wool, cashmere, denim blends and finished canvas materials - that automatically make us think warmth and coverage. However, there is one material out there that is perfect for fall and has not received the kind of recognition is deserves- corduroy! This material is thicker, making it perfect for the autumn chill. It's pliable and can be blended with other materials, much like denim, but it's even softer. It can come in a variety of colors or a versatile range of garments that are appropriate for casual weekends or to help make a fashion statement for the first weeks of school. Corduroy, unlike denim, can also be used to for pieces that can be considered work appropriate. That brushed wool blazer may seem a little too stern sometimes, but try one in corduroy and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the youthful business look it lends to the wearer. Look for a corduroy with a higher spandex percentage (no less than 2%, but no more than 4%) for a comfy must-have pant that matches everything your favorite jeans do, and more! Just click on the slideshow to see out some corduroy creations to add to your cooler weather closet!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Milly

    image

The Milly Spring/Summer 2010 "Punk Meets Prep" collection was high on my list of Fashion Week favorites. This season, designer Michelle Smith mostly abandoned her signature bright shades and bold prints and opted for a palette primarily of black and ecru with the occasional pop of color. The collection stayed true to Milly's signature femme aesthetic but the sweetness was offset by an edgy, punk-rock sensibility. Floaty silhouettes were toughened up with studs, embellishments, and layered jewelry (all from Milly's new jewelry collection). There were plenty of signature Milly staples -- mini shifts, elbow-sleeve coats, delicate blouses, metallic jacquard -- but the rich shades and sexy shapes infused these classics with a fabulous edge and radiated a stronger sense of bold confidence. Some of my absolute favorites included all of the hand-beaded knit sweaters and tops, a strapless metallic jacquard corset mini dress, and a black silk gauze trapeze dress (I will definitely be snagging that one the second it hits the racks!). From uptown prep to downtown punk and everything in between, this collection was full of must-have pieces that are both modern and timeless -- take a look at the slideshow to check them out!

Rumer Or Rachel: Who Wore Her Stella McCartney Blazer Better?

    image

Fashionistas who invest in a Stella McCartney piece are probably looking forward to an outfit that's sexy, stylish and unique... Unfortunately, when you're fashionable and famous, it's not rare to find someone spotted on the red carpet wearing the same thing! But you can't really blame the actresses who were inadvertently playing "twinzies" for the day -- both Rumer Willis and Rachel McAdams looked hot in their Stella McCartney Lace Noir blazers, and both succeeded in making it their own at their respective events! Rumer wore hers at the "Sorority Row" premiere, belted over a pair of tight black dress pants and suede pumps, while Rachel rocked hers overseas at the Deauville Film Festival, tucked under a high-waisted skirt with black peep-toes. Both chic red carpet looks, but who wore it best? Vote below on which actress you think did the Stella blazer more justice. Photo Credit: PR Photos

Stylehive's Stylescopes Encourage You To Raid Your ...

Okay, so it's pretty apparent that the "boyfriend"-inspired trend doesn't actually look like it came from your man's closet, but you gotta admit that it's a pretty cute concept given the comfy, slightly oversized fits that are still flattering to your feminine physique. And the best part about the misnomer? You don't actually need your own ball-and-chain to cop the looks. So whether you're single or attached, the stars say you're destined to rock the boyfriend look this week, be it a blazer, a pair of shorts, or even a zip-up hoodie that fits slightly better than the one your dude left at your place. Libras can keep it casual or even go pro in a boyfriend jacket and Sagittarius ladies will stay comfy-cool in some denim shorts, for example. Just be careful not to wear too many oversized items at once -- you don't want to look like you raided your dad's closet instead! Check the slideshow to see the week's pick for your sign!
