    Go Edgy-Femme Like Blake Lively

    image
Sabrina Newman on Oct 8, 2009 8:15 AM PDT
At the launch party for the Anna Sui for Target collection, Gossip Girl Blake Lively was her usual on-trend self. Blake wore a muted tiered dress by Vena Cava (her consistent go-to label) which she toughened up with punk rock accessories including a pair of studded Christian Louboutin pumps, stacks of bangles, and big hoop earrings. A dress like the one she wore is a highly versatile closet staple and is the perfect backdrop for all your layering adventures. You can keep the look clean and simple with a nude pair of pumps, add sophistication with a blazer and tights, and boots, or up the volume with edgy add-ons like Blake for a sexy night-time style.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Ralph Lauren

    image

This season, Ralph Lauren was back with the classically preppy looks we've come to expect from the designer (variations on the blazer, lust-worthy dresses), but included quite a few unexpectedly refreshing ones as well. I loved how many ensembles erred on the side of masculinity- for example, one was comprised of boyfriend jeans and a menswear-inspired shirt, then topped off with a blazer, beret, and chunky belt, only to be offset by a pair of glistening t-strap heels. Combined with natural-looking makeup and unfussy hair, each look was all the more believable. Quirky, tattered denim overalls were about as surprising to see as the head to toe denim look, but the "fresh from the farm" approach added a relaxed vibe to the typically put-together show. Crisp white layers were followed by sheer separates in cool blues, and a particularly striking iridescent floor-length shirt dress was just the thing to finish off a collection perfect for achieving that chic but not overly calculated country club look. Stylehive's Primetime Emmy Awards Red Carpet Report!

    image

Despite various teleprompter mishaps, the overuse of the Kanye interruption joke, and the Sarah McLachlan-induced sob fest, the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards still managed to be hotter than hot (both literally and figuratively -- apparently the weather was beyond sweaty)! While 30 Rock and Madmen took home the night's biggest prizes (surprise, surprise), everyone was a winner on the red carpet (well, nearly everyone). Blake Lively looked like her typical glamazon self in a gorgeous red gown with a seriously plunging neckline and Kim Kardashian's dress was so skintight, she reportedly had to be sewn into it (it was worth it)! Even primetime's funny gals like Alyson Hannigan and Jenna Fischer glammed it up Cinderella-style in dazzling strapless floor-length numbers. Flip through the slideshow to see how some of TV's leading ladies rocked the red carpet last night! Photo Credit: PR Photos

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Nanette Lepore

    image

A recurring theme I've seen at Fashion Week this year is the resurgence of bright colors and an overall feeling of optimism. And who better to demonstrate the powers of optimism than the eternally cheerful clothes of Nanette Lepore? Case in point: some of the models couldn't resist sneaking a smile when walking down the runway! Lepore's spring 2010 collection featured bright pinks, oranges, and blues in a mix of playful printed dresses and striped knits. One of the standout looks was a strapless white cocktail dress with spatters of color that looked like they came from a package of multi-colored highlighters (but in a good way!). I can picture some of Nanette's faithful celeb clientele like Blake Lively, Katherine Heigl, Taylor Swift, and Freida Pinto wearing many of Lepore's outfits next spring. I was totally inspired by the beauty looks with the models' hair pulled back without slicking down the flyaway hairs. Add a bright aqua eyeshadow swiped along the lower lash line and a pink-orange lipstick and you're good to go. Check out my slideshow to see some of my favorite outfits from the show.

Steal Her Style: Blake Lively's Summery Hamptons Look

    image
Alex Gambardella on Sep 7, 2009 5:20 AM PDT
Blake Lively is one of the most stylish starlets in Tinseltown -- and she doesn't work with a personal stylist. The outfit she recently wore to QVC's Super Saturday charity shopping event in the Hamptons was molto bene and perfect for a breezy summer day. Blake paired a form-fitting white mini by Herve Leger with a tailored blue-and-white-striped Oxford, and the classic preppiness of the shirt balanced the raciness of the eensie-weensie skirt. She finished the look with a pair of brown patent round-toe pumps and a long chain necklace. Here's how you can get her look for way less, courtesy of Lemondrop!

    1. Elizabeth and James Schoolboy Shirt: This menswear-inspired shirt features ruched sleeves and back buttons to keep it looking fitted, not boxy. $264
    2. Forever 21 Cut Off Denim Skirt: A crisp white skirt like this can be worn to a daytime BBQ or as an impromptu beach cover-up. $20
    3. Matisse Pump: A thick wooden heel and shiny patent upper combine to make this pump a true eye-catcher. $42
    4. Sequin Long Chain Necklace: Add some funky style to a more classic look with a fun, tiered chain necklace like this gorgeous silver version. $40

Tried & Tested: The Best Cotton Tee On The Market

    image
The Frisky on Aug 25, 2009 5:28 AM PDT
Jeans always get front and center when it comes to icons of American style. But everyone knows the silent star is really the T-shirt. Where would James Dean, Marlon Brando, or Michael Jackson have been without the super simple, super sexy white t-shirt? There are several elements that elevate the standard tee: color, graphics, fit and, most importantly, fabric. The latter is what makes Market tees so amazing. The recently debuted line believes in simplicity. So they limit their collection to a variety of plain, cotton t-shirts that still manage to be infinitely comfortable and sexy. Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively and Lindsay Lohan have all been snapped while wearing them. What drives them to the brand is what will make you fall in love, too: buttery fabrics, rainbow colors, and the perfect fit. We got to test-run these tees and got more compliments than we can count. They're perfect paired with jeans and sneakers or a chic mini-skirt and heels-- and the prices are equally attractive at $24 to $35. Click over to our friends at The Frisky to check out Market's latest styles and colors and find out where to buy them online!
