Show Some Skin In A Chic Cutout Dress!

    image

Remember the '90s? When models weren't just models, they were supermodels. The glamazons graced the covers of magazines and walked the red carpet just as often as the runway. They strutted their stuff in sexy body-con frocks; who could forget Cindy Crawford's strappy black mini or Elizabeth Hurley's safety-pinned skintight Versace gown? While those times may seem like a forgotten era, at least their way of dressing has come back in style. It's been hard to ignore the all the body conscious dresses out there! Ever since the return of Herve Leger, the fashion world just can't get enough. But now the snug silhouette has turned even more daring! Designers have been snipping and clipping into these dresses, giving us a whole new way to be revealing. Some designers, like Stella McCartney and Black Halo, have gone the subtle route, offering strappy, open cut outs around the shoulders. Another subtle way to rock this trend is with a cut out back, like Charlotte Ronson's exposed zipper mini dress! Or for a cheap fix try the Spring & Clifton cut out dolman tunic. Some designers have even opted to give you cut outs with out actual skin showing but replacing some areas of fabric with micro-mesh. My favorite is the Two Toned Mini Dress from American Apparel. But if you really want to embody that sex pot '90s style, you have to go all out with some daring mid drift cut outs a la Alexander Wang! See the slideshow for the cutout dresses on my wishlist.

What to Wear: Summer Job Interview

It's hot. It's sunny, and you have a job interview. You must look savvy, chic and like the job candidate any company would be so lucky to have. But you don't want to sweat through your three-season suit you rely on through the fall, winter and spring. Solution? Something crisp, airy and modern, like the Banana Republic collarless linen jacket paired with their white cotton-blend sheath dress. You'll be comfortable and look totally put together. Shoes are a tough act, because most sandals are too casual. To avoid any possible offense, either stick with a classic pump or a peep-toe heel like this DAVIS by Ruthie Davis patio peep toe hidden platform pump. Check out the slideshow for more great summer job interview pieces!

Girls' night out coming up? Hooray! Get ready for some good old-fashioned gossip, strong mixed drinks (mojitos or caipirinhas are mine for this season!) and a fabulous night out with your best friends. I love to up my fashion ante, especially when it's just the girls. It might be time to finally spring for the uber-cute Marc Jacobs "Love Story" clutch, which would be perfect with this Black Halo Cold Shoulder Minidress! Or I could go for a pop of bright with this gorgeous silk satin "Fiore" clutch from J. Crew with the adorable Rachel Pally "Carmela" dress. Check out my slideshow for lots of other cute girls' night out options!

    Spring Trend Alert: Watercolor Prints

    image
Adriana Nova on Apr 27, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
Watercolor prints have been declared one of the "it" trends for spring, from Coco Rocha sashaying in a demure rose-spattered A-line dress in H&M's Spring campaign to red carpet regulars like Vanessa Williams adding an artsy touch to their ensembles with watercolor print clutches, shoes, and scarves. A subtler alternative to bold prints, watercolor motifs are still dramatic in their own way and add an avant-garde yet feminine sensibility to any outfit. Walter, Elizabeth and James, Tracy Reese, and Black Halo are among the designers who have included graceful watercolor-inspired pieces in their spring collections. Apart from its visual merits, what's also fab about this trend is that it comes without an expiration date. Like quality art, it can be kept and sported for years and not appear dated at all. Careful not to overdo it, though: one impressionist piece per outfit makes the best impression. Check out the slideshow for stylish ways to channel your inner Monet!

Awards season has come and gone and were left with a mere memory of gorgeous gowns and gold statuettes. One thing that has been burned in my mind from that evening was that there was nary a black dress in sight! While most of us don€™t have any red carpet moments in our future, we do have plenty of cocktail parties, weddings and birthday parties to attend. Take advice from the stars and ditch basic black to stand out from the crowd. I know it€™s hard to let go of the little black dress, but don€™t fret ladies, I have a plan to help you break out from black! For the true black addicts (myself included!), take a small step to other neutrals; Steel gray, beige and cream can be a pretty option for day or night. Feeling a little bit bolder? Then sequins and shine are for you like this perfect Derek Lam lame dress. Once you have conquered the neutrals and shine you're ready for the last step in look-at-me dressing- bold color! One of Hollywood€™s new favorite (and affordable) brands Black Halo makes great, figure flattering dresses in great colors like cobalt blue and magenta that are sure to get you noticed. So next time you're looking for a little black dress, take a step back and start looking for a little NOT black dress instead. Check out the slideshow for some options.
