Ossie Clark was a master stylist & master cutter; one of the most efffective [& affecting] comebacks of all time was accomplished by Celia BIrtwell's most recent collection.

  & it ends in about five days [19 Dec 2008, 1:50PM PST], & its seller is very nice, & it's--Bill Gibb, for heavens sake. After all the Ossie frenzy, he deservies his own charmingly chaotic commotion. If only his fancy dresses would come up as much as his knits! They dont--but you cannot beat this for a knit--by Mr Gibb, by ANYone. Had it a button front, I'd sell my sister's firstborn.....

  Jean Varon/John Bates [as they are, for many if not all intents & purposes, the same] gives us one more painful reminder of how very much we wish we were not experiencing the New Depression right now, but instead the fearless economy of the late 60s, early 70s--the one that was pre-Gas Crisis, recession, stagflation, WIN button, etc & ect [for all who remember, for those who were forced to take high school history].

  .....so it is here for, as they say, research. I did not, indeed, as Ebay said, win it on Ebay. This cos, as earlier I said, the drummer flipped. I wish he had not. He was very nice when he was sober. It's hard to think when he is not, & screaming.

  I know it is better to buy stuff, but perchance it is also better to dream. These are in the hundreds & thousands now &, even if the market has dropped a minor magnitude due to the New Depression, they'll hold their value. & the more unusual Ossies are not even that easy to see, much less own, so herew/ is one of them, again from the Met's Costume Institute, one of the best fashion resources, online or IRL.

  I cant remember which doyenne said "B for Bill Gibb" & thereby gave him his minor signature, but one can read it in his long overdue & not long enough fashion bio, available on Amazon or Alibris or ABEBooks, preferably from a used bookdealer. However, I do know that this is one of the nicest examples incorporating that trademark that I have yet seen [dig those sleeves, dig that cut, dig that gathering, that trim]--& oh, how I wish it were not eight hundred bucks. For one whose blood runs richer than does mine, sadly.

  "I am more like an artist than a clothing designer," he said [more or less] soon before he died. Absolutely, one must concur two decades later. If a perfect cross can be made from the comingling of art, craft & design, Mr Gibb must take its eternal crown. From a well deserved, too belated retrospective at the Fashion Museum in Bath, one which began last month [1008] & will run for one year [to end in 1009].
