It's no news that nowadays belts are more about fashion than function. Gone are the days that belts should only be discreet and embellishment-free for maximum waistband-cinching without the buckle bulges. Now they're all about accessorizing, bedazzling, shaping looser ensembles, or even adding pops of color to otherwise drab monochrome outfits. So with all the stylish choices in the realm of belts, how does a girl choose? Look no further than Stylehive's Stylescopes to see what kind of waist-hugger is written in your fashion future! Geminis can ditch the chunky jewelry and dress up an LBD with a hammered gold belt for some flash, and the Virgo gals can hop on the chain trend and toughen up a girly dress with this multi-strand silver belt. Take a look at the slideshow to see what kind of belt will make your sign's next outfit!

    Belt It Like Mrs. Obama

I went shopping for a bit on Saturday and spotted at least 3 stylish young ladies sporting large belts over cardigans or jackets as spotted on our stylish First Lady Michelle Obama. In fact, this fall, the big belt is in thanks to Mrs. O! As featured in Vogue UK, Michelle Obama is a fan of oversized belts over sweaters, and with its flattering waist-cinching look, it's no wonder why it's been quick to catch on. One of my favorites for this fall is this two-in-one Anthropologie Puckered & Pleated Cardigan with built in wide belt ($128) which I can definitely see on our First Lady. It's available in gray, black, or bright gold. How cute is it with the soft pink ruffled shirt pictured on the model?

Hot In The Hive: Dominic Jones Jewelry

With stars like Rihanna leading the gothic, punk style trend and edgy vampires popping up as sex symbols everywhere from Twilight to True Blood, it's no surprise that designers have taken clothing and accessories to the next level. We're seeing metallic studs and points and shiny materials like patent leather and finished georgettes as added details of choice. Reds, blacks and greys are the new backdrops and blood red lips and pale, pale complexions are gracing the runways. One designer to jump on the "sexy-vampire" band-wagon? Dominic Jones. Jones' designs are right on with the current edgy, rocker, "don't get too close or I'll suck your blood" craze, but still makes it his own. Take his black and gold "fangs belt" for example. Black belts are nothing new, but the gold fangs meeting in the middle definitely make it different! The great thing about this belt is that you can wear it to amp up a simple sheath dress and add some attitude into your look, and then lend it to your crazy, over-the-top, super-trendy younger sister to wear over her slashed leggings and oversized tees.

Skin is In! Charming Snakeskin Accessories To Slither Into ...

Snakeskin prints have slithered their way into stores! At the spring runway shows, they were on everything-- dresses, skirts, hats, bags, shoes, belts... and dyed in every color! It's all about adding texture to your look with skins. Look for color-rich reptile accessories; they're a great way to dabble in the trend without looking like a walking (well, slithering) reptile. Real snakeskin and python can be quite expensive, but there are plenty of faux embossed options that will keep you from having buyer's remorse when this trend slithers away. Try a sexy snakeskin sandal with a basic ensemble to pump up a look. A bright colored python belt works perfectly to cinch this season's slouchy boyfriend jeans and khakis. Don't be afraid to mix and match your snakeskin- just keep one neutral and the other colorful for a coordinating but not overly calculated look. Check out the slideshow to see some ssssssuper sssnake accessories that are sure to charm you!

Stylehive's Stylescopes Bring Out Your Sense Of Adventure, ...

Last winter and spring, we saw belted trenches all over the place, and we were definitely diggin' the Sherlock-Holmes-gone-chic look. Rather than going out of style or retiring to the closet hangers due to the passing seasons, the khaki hues and cinched coats have instead been modified to adapt to the warm weather, bringing a bevy of new styles that are more reminiscent of a stylish safari chick than an undercover sleuth. Whether or not you're actually as adventurous as these savannah-inspired styles might suggest, you don't have to be Indiana Jones' new sidekick-in-training to rock the summery safari look -- it's simply written in the stars! Tauruses can add shape to their waist with a breathable belted cotton vest and Pisces ladies will feel breezy in a posh pair of long khaki shorts. A great belt is a fashion staple that will serve you well, whether it's to define your waist in a baggy dress or shirt or dress up an otherwise plain jeans and t-shirt combination. These are tough times, ladies, but I have found lots of cute, colorful belts to dress up your wardrobe, all for under $50! This gorgeous bouquet sash belt from J. Crew is just $35 and will spice up any outfit with floral flair! This Belgo Lux open weave belt strikes just the right notes of preppy and bohemian.
