Stylehive's Stylescopes Show That Accessorizing Is A Cinch!

    image

It's no news that nowadays belts are more about fashion than function. Gone are the days that belts should only be discreet and embellishment-free for maximum waistband-cinching without the buckle bulges. Now they're all about accessorizing, bedazzling, shaping looser ensembles, or even adding pops of color to otherwise drab monochrome outfits. So with all the stylish choices in the realm of belts, how does a girl choose? Look no further than Stylehive's Stylescopes to see what kind of waist-hugger is written in your fashion future! Geminis can ditch the chunky jewelry and dress up an LBD with a hammered gold belt for some flash, and the Virgo gals can hop on the chain trend and toughen up a girly dress with this multi-strand silver belt. Take a look at the slideshow to see what kind of belt will make your sign's next outfit!

CollegeCandy Shows How To Jump On The High-Waisted Skirt Trend!

Like most of you, I am a [recently graduated but not willing to accept it] college student who would rather dish out money for fashion than food. But sometimes, like in a recession (or when I'm really hungry), that doesn't work out so well. A girl's gotta eat (and look fabulous), right? Which is why I was having some serious issues lately. You see, I am in love with the whole high-waisted skirt look that I see on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amanda Bynes. It's slimming and cute and I loooove it. But I can't justify spending a good chunk of change on a skirt that will be out of style in 6 months when I have 10 perfectly fine skirts lining my closet. So I decided to figure out a way to turn what I already got into what I want. Turns out, it's not that hard to make your own high-waisted skirt. Even for crafty rejects like myself. Jump over to the CollegeCandy blog for the quick & simple step-by-step!

Fall Accessories Bring Silver And Gold Together At Last!

    image

Whoever told you that silver and gold were clashing colors and therefore should never mingle within the same ensemble was seriously ill-advised! Though slightly unexpected, pairing silver and gold -- especially in the same piece -- is a bold and stunning combo, and it's popping up all over jewelry and accessories trends for the upcoming fall season! Mix things up with a chunky braided chain necklace, or tie your outfit together with a multicolored stud belt, among a variety of other chic options. While I certainly don't encourage you to simply pile on all the jewelry you own or accessorize without a second thought at color-coordination, just be aware that the two metals don't repel each other like opposite ends of a magnet, and can look great layered and mixed-and-matched. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the hottest multi-metal accessories!

    Belt It Like Mrs. Obama

I went shopping for a bit on Saturday and spotted at least 3 stylish young ladies sporting large belts over cardigans or jackets as spotted on our stylish First Lady Michelle Obama. In fact, this fall, the big belt is in thanks to Mrs. O! As featured in Vogue UK, Michelle Obama is a fan of oversized belts over sweaters, and with its flattering waist-cinching look, it's no wonder why it's been quick to catch on. One of my favorites for this fall is this two-in-one Anthropologie Puckered & Pleated Cardigan with built in wide belt ($128) which I can definitely see on our First Lady. It's available in gray, black, or bright gold. How cute is it with the soft pink ruffled shirt pictured on the model?

Hot In The Hive: Dominic Jones Jewelry

    image

With stars like Rihanna leading the gothic, punk style trend and edgy vampires popping up as sex symbols everywhere from Twilight to True Blood, it's no surprise that designers have taken clothing and accessories to the next level. We're seeing metallic studs and points and shiny materials like patent leather and finished georgettes as added details of choice. Reds, blacks and greys are the new backdrops and blood red lips and pale, pale complexions are gracing the runways. One designer to jump on the "sexy-vampire" band-wagon? Dominic Jones. Jones' designs are right on with the current edgy, rocker, "don't get too close or I'll suck your blood" craze, but still makes it his own. Take his black and gold "fangs belt" for example. Black belts are nothing new, but the gold fangs meeting in the middle definitely make it different! The great thing about this belt is that you can wear it to amp up a simple sheath dress and add some attitude into your look, and then lend it to your crazy, over-the-top, super-trendy younger sister to wear over her slashed leggings and oversized tees.

Price: Inquire at Dominic Jones for details!

Trust me, even under wraps, your curves have a lot to say in the name of style. A big trend to tap back into this season is thick belts, and not only are they a great way to hide or accentuate what your mama gave you, the mere addition of any belt, especially a thick one, can change the entire look of your outfit. For those of you with a sense of style that changes as often as the tabloids' latest gossip, a big belt can be an economical fix to your ever-morphing expression. Fringe, layers, studs and buckles on these babies are among many different elements to choose from in helping you define what kind of flare you'd like to add to your ever-changing fashion mood. Check out the slideshow for some hip suggestions to add to your collection of thick belts!
