Agyness Deyn And MGMT Spotted Wearing Jewish Rosaries from ...

You don't need to be a Torah-toter to love Jewish rosaries. These religion-inspired beads have been popping up on cool kids everywhere (including their fearless leaders Agyness Deyn and the boys from MGMT). The (JEW)elery collection was started by Carlen Altman in her Brooklyn, NY, studio when she was inspired by vintage Catholic rosaries. As a nice little Jewish girl in BK, she couldn't bring herself to wear a cross; hence the birth of Jewish rosaries. Each necklace is adorned with shapes like Stars of David, Hamsa hands and menorah charms. You can choose from an array of styles with names like "Chai Maintenance" for the discerning Jewess or Shiksa, or just a simple one from the "Classic" collection with a Star of David. These unusual necklaces come in both gold and silver with your choice of colored beads (personally I think the Jet shade has a great 80's Madonna feel to it). The most recent collection comes in red, black, and even in-glow-in-the-dark (coolest thing ever!!). These are so kitschy and cool, even goyem like me can sport them! Check out the slideshow to see some of the styles and then head over to the Jewish Rosaries site to claim one (or a few) of your own!

Vintage Costume Jewelry From Designer Hattie Carnegie!

The name Henrietta means "queen" or "ruler," and Henrietta Kanengeiser was an undisputed Queen in the fashion world. Don't recognize the name? Probably because you know her better as late designer extraordinaire Hattie Carnegie. She changed her surname from Kanengeiser to honor her mentor, Andrew Carnegie, and she obtained her nickname at 16 while making hats at Macy's Department Store, hence "Hattie." While she was a fashion power house in the 1930s through the 1950s, heading an operation that employed over 1,000 workers and did millions of dollars of business at a time when most women were homemakers, she also designed amazing costume jewelry to complement her clothing. Can you believe that summer is almost over? Soon those lovely summer weekends will be gone and the summer blockbuster movies will seem like a distant memory. But before you go into hibernation and say goodbye to the floaty sundresses, flip flops and bikinis, we still have a good couple of warm weeks ahead of us (unless you live in San Francisco like me, the fog is about to lift and summer about to start all over again)! Relish this last month of warm weather with some truly summery citrus accessories. Lemon colored baubles and a tangerine clutch add a nice summery punch of color that makes you feel like you are headed for the beach! For more lemon, lime and tangerine touches check out my slideshow!
