Coquette Has Her Eye On Bombako Headbands

It's no wonder why Gossip Girl brought headbands to the forefront once again, but these headbands by Bambako take them to a whole new level of sophistication. Details such as feathers, beading, and ornate ribbons make these a perfect compliment to any outfit without looking overly embellished or gaudy. For the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, designer Abigail Ricarte wanted to create pieces that were fun, strong, and ultra femme. "This season, I was really drawn to bold statement pieces by playing with different textures and heavy splashes of color in between. I wanted to appeal to a range of girls - from yuppies to hipsters," says Abigail. And given the variety of her collection, from the glitzy Night in Tunesia to the laidback feathered Oh Hey band, we can't imagine what type of girl wouldn't be able to find something she likes! New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Milly

The Milly Spring/Summer 2010 "Punk Meets Prep" collection was high on my list of Fashion Week favorites. This season, designer Michelle Smith mostly abandoned her signature bright shades and bold prints and opted for a palette primarily of black and ecru with the occasional pop of color. The collection stayed true to Milly's signature femme aesthetic but the sweetness was offset by an edgy, punk-rock sensibility. Floaty silhouettes were toughened up with studs, embellishments, and layered jewelry (all from Milly's new jewelry collection). There were plenty of signature Milly staples -- mini shifts, elbow-sleeve coats, delicate blouses, metallic jacquard -- but the rich shades and sexy shapes infused these classics with a fabulous edge and radiated a stronger sense of bold confidence. Some of my absolute favorites included all of the hand-beaded knit sweaters and tops, a strapless metallic jacquard corset mini dress, and a black silk gauze trapeze dress (I will definitely be snagging that one the second it hits the racks!). From uptown prep to downtown punk and everything in between, this collection was full of must-have pieces that are both modern and timeless -- take a look at the slideshow to check them out!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Max Azria

Backstage at the Max Azria show, there was a poster up on the wall which read: "Be Strong. Be Confident." These commandments definitely came to life on the runway, both in the attitude of the models and the amazingness of the clothes. The Max Azria Spring/Summer 2010 collection merged clean sophistication with a rebellious attitude. Dresses crafted from crepe, chiffon, and silk georgette were slashed and deconstructed, as noted in the program, "to reveal the understated beauty of clean lines and sleek sophistication." The pared-down palette got an occasional kick with flashes of delicate beading and metallic cages. While this collection was heavily dress-oriented, there were also some incredible separates thrown into the mix. I especially loved the silk georgette beaded tops. While I loved pretty much every look, the final few really sent my heart aflutter. There was a long white-crepe deep-V dress that was so sexy yet so elegant, a black crepe slash dress that was too hot to resist, and two beaded numbers (one in white, the other in black) that were so stunning, you'll just have to see for yourself in the slideshow!

Turquoise Jewelry, Not Just For The Tacky!

    image

If the word "turquoise" automatically makes you think of the Southwest and giant slabs of the blue-ish green stone attached to over-done sterling, it's time to re-evaluate. Turquoise doesn't have to be tacky and in small doses is actually quite trendy. Earrings are a great place to display this gem as they provide enough space for just a hint of blue without overwhelming your face, outfit or anything else you may not want overshadowed. TheFind has some great options, and they don't all come with a hefty price tag. They're fun, colorful ways to dress up a simple jeans-and-t-shirt ensemble. They look stunning with black. The great thing about turquoise is that it can be casual or polished. See -- "tacky" is nowhere in sight! Check out TheFind for more fun Spring trends!
