Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Cia Maritima

Well, if someone's gotta bring the Latin flavor to the Mercedes Benz SWIM runway, it might as well be Brazilian beachwear designer Cia.Maritima! The show started off relatively slow, giving us a glimpse of some undoubtedly unique watercolor animal prints that put a soft spin on a traditionally wild design. Things slowly began to simmer with the introduction of boldly printed string bikinis and then reached an eventual boiling point with the parade of dare-to-bare cutout bikinis and structured monokinis that left everyone feeling hot, hot, hot! It wasn't all about the skin-baring ensembles though- the designer wowed with an impressive array of sheer and Grecian-inspired caftans and cover ups, and the details weren't to be missed either- the bold cuffs and strappy arm embellishments were just as alluring. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: Luli Fama

My first thoughts upon seeing this year's Luli Fama swimwear collection? Pageant bikini competition protestors obviously have never seen one of her runways! Decked out in fluffy sausage curls (sounds like something at IHOP, I know), plenty of red lipstick, and exuding the feminine confidence of Rosie the Riveter, the show's models were a perfect balance of girlie-sexy and in-your-face tough, putting a fresh new spin on the pin-up girl that frankly could probably kick your butt. The collection itself boasted a fun and flirty variety of retro prints like black-and-white polka dots with modern twists like neon ruffled trim.. and of course the looks wouldn't be complete without red pearl necklaces, giving the collection a sort of overall "June Cleaver lets her hair down" vibe. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SWIM Runway: TIBI

If there's one thing a Tibi runway never fails to lack, it's plenty of color... and this year's Miami Swim show was no exception! While there was little variety in the cut of the suits, which mainly alternated between minimal-coverage bikinis and one-pieces bearing deep necklines (with a couple one-shoulder numbers thrown into the mix), the abundance of bright, tropical prints seemed practically bottomless! If the tribal-gone-funky theme was not apparent enough with the models' cuffed forearms, gold metal sandals, and idol symbol jewelry dangling from their ears and necklines, the suits' many patterns -- from neon geometric tribal designs to tropical orchid-inspired florals -- cleared up all possible doubt. Even among the sea of shocking pink and turquoise suits, a particularly gorgeous magenta tunic dress stood out, trailing a flowing train of silk in its path and closing the show in the fiercest way possible. Bedazzled Bathing Suits To Bling Out Your Next Beach Day

Sparkles, sequins, and studs -- oh my! If you're not built like Alessandra Ambrosio like I am (ha! I'm definitely kidding), finding the perfect swimsuit can be a task similar to finding a needle in a haystack... so you might as well make sure that the one suit you finally settle on is killer! Of course, confidence is the only thing you really need to get heads turning and all eyes on you as you strut your stuff on the sand, but let's face it -- sparkly embellishments adorning your scantily-clad bod definitely helps! Forget your basic black bandeau and opt for a tribal-inspired stone-studded bikini from Victoria's Secret, or even a wallet-friendly Charlotte Russe rhinestone monokini for added coverage with maximum sex appeal. We may be well into summer by now, but it's certainly not too late to add some shimmer to your swim style. Check out the slideshow for some of my favorite sparkling suits that'll be sure to amp up your next pool party or beach date!

Hot In The Hive: The Swarovski Crystal "Bling-Kini"

    image

While many of us are hitting up Target and the sale racks at Victoria's Secret to stock up on bargain swimwear this season, others overseas are opting to splurge on more impractical poolside pieces, such as The Anita by Pistol Panties, for example, a suit made exclusively for London-based Selfridges department store. Made with 5,000 Swarovski crystals, the appropriately-dubbed "bling-kini" doesn't officially go on sale until later this week (for about $2986 in American money), yet stores in London, Manchester, and Birmingham already have rapidly-growing wait-lists of cost-fearless crazies who can't wait to get their hands on one. I guess if you have three months worth of rent to spare, there's nothing wrong with trying to live a little -- as long as it doesn't involve swimming, because that's strictly off-limits in this morbidly-priced maillot! So if you happen to be strolling along the beach and see someone who resembles a glistening stained glass window headed for the waves, do them a favor and stop them before they dump $3000 down the drain (as if they haven't already). In my humble opinion, I say that if we can't even swim in it, they could have at least made it cute!

    Price: Ridiculous.
Who Found It: Victoria1 was the first to add the Anita Bling-Kini to the Hive.

I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for anything retro. From pin-ups like Bettie Page and Dita von Teese to paintings by Alberto Vargas, I love them all. Best of all, they're a great source of inspiration for swimwear! For the latest swimwear collection from Pistol Panties, it's easy to see all the retro pin-up references! Deborah Fleming, the British/Colombian designer behind Pistol Panties is committed to designing "glamorous swimwear to make you feel like a superstar." In fact, Deborah's first job was designing costumes for film and theater where she found vintage film costumes as inspiration. I can imagine almost every swimsuit flattering all shapes and sizes (which is quite a feat!). A variety of prints were featured from classic polka-dots and houndstooth to a bold print that reminded me of stained glass windows. Some of my favorite looks had giant floppy hats which provide much needed sun protection and privacy on the beach. It's hard to please everyone, but I think Pistol Panties may have done it!
