New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: BCBG Max Azria

BCBGMAXAZRIA kicked off the start of New York Fashion Week with nothing but gorgeous dresses parading down the runway. The popular mini bandage dress made appearances in bright coral and rich purple with sheer insets. (I had to double check to make sure I wasn't at Herve Leger!) Designer Max Azria played with colorblocking with solids and abstract prints which reminded me of a Jackson Pollock painting or crashing waves on the beach. I'm looking forward to seeing the loose t-shirt dresses and asymmetrical hems in-stores and on our favorite celebs. As a matter of fact, two dresses are already available for purchase on the BCBG website! The models carried small clutches with big tassels hanging off which is definitely one of the next must-have party bags. As for hair and beauty, all the models had their straight hair tucked behind their ears with fresh and natural looking makeup. Click on my slideshow to see my favorite looks from the runway!

Vintage Fashionistas Keep It Under Control with Bandage Dresses

    image

Herve Leger believed that there were two types of fashion consumers: the fashion victims, who adopted the looks of designers without thinking, and the women who refused to be feminine clothes hangers. He, of course, designed for the latter. His most famous design was the bandage dress, and it seems like every young celebrity (and a few older ones as well) are sporting these unforgiving frocks on red carpets everywhere. And while you might not be able to afford a Leger original, there are plenty of vintage knock-offs to satisfy you fashion itch. Of course, these body-huggers should come with a warning label that advises against wearing unless all your bumps and bulges are under control. But for those of you with the bods to pull 'em off, you can choose from this sexy roundup of vintage dresses. Just click the slideshow to see the selection.

We aren't the only ones falling head-over-heels for the Herve Leger by Max Azria Fall 2009 Collection> -- Not one but two runway models took a tumble during the New York Fashion Week show, but they couldn't have looked more fierce doing it! With its parade of tightly-bound bandage dresses with metallic paneling, snakeskin details, and all sorts of shimmery embellishments like fringe, tiling, and beading, the Sunday night show was full of life and movement despite the impossibly snug fit of the dresses! Some of Hollywood's chicest stars were present to witness the heavily shoulder-padded fall preview, including Sophia Bush, Jessica Stroup, and January Jones, all in their own Herve Leger favorites. While some commented that the collection lacked a certain brightness, the pieces undoubtedly took full advantage of its subdued color scheme, utilizing hues ranging from limey olive and deep brown to gunmetal chrome, and instead of bursts of color, contrasted neutrals with shiny metallics for a pop of fashionable flash.

Colors: neutral browns and olives, plus chrome, silver, and black
Silhouettes: banded halter dresses, capped sleeves, boxy shoulders, cinched waists
Celeb Sightings: Lucy Liu, Joy Bryant, Sophia Bush, Michelle Trachtenberg

Always the cutting edge trend-setter, Lindsay Lohan was one of the first starlets to hop on the Hervé Léger bandwagon, and was soon followed by pretty much every single big named star. Back in 2006, Lilo showed up at a dinner celebrating the Cartier Charity Love Bracelet looking absolutely stunning in a black and white Herve Leger halter style bandage dress, which hugged her famous curves in all the right places. Two years later, that famous dress is FINALLY on sale so we too can get in on this massive trend. Get the Look: Herve Leger Bandage Halter Dress, Was: $1,480, NOW $1,036. Still think the price tag is a bit too high? Click here for my Hervé Léger investigation for an in depth analysis to help you decide if it's worth the investment!
