Seeing Spots: Men Can Wear Polka Dots Too!

    image

In general, men have always been wary of prints and polka dots aren't exactly on the top of every man's wishlist. Personally, I am all for polka dots. They have this child-like wonder to them, but you need to be wary when it comes to donning the dots. There is no gray area when it comes to apparel with polka dots. You have to either be really subdued or go all out. If you go for the former, you need to go big or go home- like the Marc by Marc Jacobs t-shirt. For me, I like to keep my dots very understated via my accessories. A pocket square from JoS A. Bank adds a bit of whimsy to a suit, while a Band of Outsiders skinny tie gives some urban dandyism. But whatever you choose, know when to say when. Don't dress in dots from head to toe- you don't want to look like a giant polka dot vomited all over you. Check out the slideshow for polka dots that won't send you to clown school.

The Bow Tie: Timeless Men's Accessory, Or Endangered Hipster ...

    image

The ubiquitous bow tie has been a part of men's fashion for years-- decades-- centuries, even. From the classic tuxedo, to the retro ice cream shoppe soda jerk, to the trio of Disney dandies known as the Jonas Brothers, the bow tie has been an "it" accessory for men. They come in many varieties. There are those that you can tie yourself (courtesy of the Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren), or the ones that you can clip on effortlessly (if Band of Outsiders makes it in this variety, then it must be cool). Now as we walk into a new year (and a new presidency-- go Obama!), has the bow tie overstayed its welcome as a casual item of sartorial charm? Or should it go back to being a part of the template suits of prestigious Ivy League professors? I haven't worn a bow tie since my high school senior prom, and I have still hesitated to buy one just because I think it will make my face look wider €“ but that doesn't mean I have discounted the item. I just need to find one that suits me if I choose to don the trendy accessory. Whatever side of the bow tie fence you stand on, here are a couple of bow ties that you can add to your neck accessory arsenal.

Look Luxe In A Tux Like Anne Hathaway

The tuxedo trend marches on this season stronger than ever. This style definitely isn't fail-proof and there is a strong risk of looking like you're dressed up as a man for Halloween! At the New York premiere for her new flick Bride Wars, the gorgeous Anne Hathaway showed fashion lovers everywhere how to get it right and we would be remiss not to take note! The stunning star looked sexy and sleek wearing a form-fitting Band of Outsiders suit given a playful edge with metallic Christian Louboutin pumps and tassel earrings from Tiffany & Co. This look can easily transition from the office to the bar and exudes that perfect mix of sexiness and sophistication.

Spotted! Chuck Bass, With One Of His Many, Many... Blazers.

OMG. Did you see what Chuck Bass did to Dan on "Gossip Girl" this week? More than that, did you see what he was wearing? Sure, the Gossip Girls may be under the spotlight when it comes to fashion, but sometimes the guys (mostly Chuck) tend to take more sartorial risks that work. The devious upper East side dandy (played marvelously by Ed Westwick) is always seen with pocket squares, button down shirts and ascots in popping colors, taking us back to classic gentlemen style. Notably, it's his dapper blazers and sport coats that make his outfits. Tailored to a tee for a high-society party hosted by Blair or detailed with a mischievous school boy charm for the halls of St Jude's, here are some blazers that emulate the villainous style of Chuck. You know you love him. XOXO. Photo credit: AP Photo/The CW, Giovanni Rufino
