    Eco-Tips For Eco-Brides!

    image
Amber Fijolek on Jul 8, 2009 2:24 PM PDT
Tying the knot can often suggest more unnecessary luxuries than the term implies (well, string), and if you're living an environmentally-conscious lifestyle, then why shouldn't your wedding follow suit? Neither the ceremony nor reception need to leave their carbon footprint when you and your significant other take the plunge. From the invites to the food, there is plenty of room for impurities to find their way into the big day's plan. These days, being green is more than just an attempt to save the beautiful vessel on which we live -- it's a powerful trend that has conveniently filtered its way to any type of vendor you might need to make your fairytale come true. The success of having such reputable resources at your fingertips has even been proven with earth-friendly celeb-weddings like Alicia Silverstone's! Taking the extra steps to seek more eco-friendly options would be a diverting challenge for any couple, and certainly one that will make the knot-tying date and the rest of your lives together extra special.

Style Notes: Summer Music Festival Outfit Ideas!

    image

To me, the sweet smell of summer is synonymous with outdoor concerts and festivals. My hometown of Chicago never disappoints with a positively booked calendar from mid-May until late September. So, next question, obviously: what should I wear? I've gotten this down to somewhat of a science. First, make sure you choose fabrics that breathe and will not leave weird tan lines. Second, try dancing. Are you comfortable, or are you readjusting? If you find yourself pulling at your clothes, move on to something more simple. Third, are you comfortable? Then go! I love to go with a cotton jersey or linen dress, or mid or Bermuda length jean shorts with a cute sleeveless top, like this Free People Rebecca tunic. I'm definitely picking up the Dolce Vita Camden dress for this summer - comfortable and classic! Check out my slideshow for some great summer concert style ideas!

Alex & Chloe "Holding You Forever" Wedding Rings- A Revolve ...

Weddings are deeply rooted in tradition, so much so that the white gown and coordinating taffeta bridesmaid dresses are just the buttercream icing on the classic tiered cake. But these days, more and more brides are opting for a more modern approach, and as little twists such as wedding cupcake arrangements make way for bigger ones like shorter dresses and atypical venues, it's only a matter of time before the biggest little wedding tradition- the ring- follows suit. Edgy jewelry maker Alex & Chloe has taken the traditional wedding ring and given it an ultra-modern spin with their 14k gold "Holding You Forever" rings, available exclusively on Revolve Clothing. With inverted princess-cut diamonds, square bands, and concentric circles, you've truly never seen rings like these! The men's ring is identical, minus the diamonds (and a couple dollars). The rings can be purchased as a set or individually, and are custom-made and shipped within two weeks. They're just traditional enough to be elegant, and the style, while definitely not the usual, is indeed timeless- just the way things should be.

Show Style: 10 Essential Items For Stealing That Gossip Girl Look

    image

Did you tune into Gossip Girl last season just for an hour-long fashion fix? Did you ever miss a key plot point because you were daydreaming about Blair Waldorf's latest Balenciaga handbag? Well...so were the rest of the 2.7 million viewers. Gossip Girl is more than a show about Manhattan's elite private schools; it€™s a cultural phenomenon that has had a great impact on retail trends, making preppy staples like piped blazers and argyle fashionable again. And although the television season has ended (you can watch repeats on The CW Monday nights), we€™re sure its ritzy, collegiate style will be showing up in department stores nationwide when the Back to School season begins. Now if only there was a definitive answer to: "How old is too old to wear knee-socks and a short pleated skirt?"

Style Icon: Natasha Khan From Bat for Lashes

If there is one person whose closet (let's be honest, whose whole life) I'd like to raid, it would be Natasha Khan. Singer, songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, visual artist, and now my personal fashion muse, is there anything this British beauty can't do? Combining unusual instruments (like the harpsichord), a militaristic sound, a vintage vibe, and mystical indie rock, her songs are hauntingly beautiful. She is a master storyteller, taking us on trips through animal kingdoms and magical dream sequences. Her covetable style incorporates the whimsy of her music with a 70s flair, lots of layering, and is always topped off with a retro style headband. Check out my slideshow of some of Natasha's favorite designers mixed in with my faves she'd look great in, then watch her amazing video.

Sounds like: Joanna Newsom, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Bjork
Top Songs to Download: "Priscilla", "What's a Girl To Do", and "Horse and I"
