Hot In The Hive: Nordic Ware Castle Bundt Pan

It's a sad, sad day when you realize there's a chance you might be too old to go trick-or-treating. This realization either comes in the form of a too-high number of slammed doors during the previous year's Halloween activities, or a shift from fear of cavities to fear of calories. Eeek! Luckily there are still plenty of ways to make the most of your annual sugar rush and they don't involve dipping into the kids' stash (bad!) or going to town on the office candy bowl. This Nordic Ware Castle Bundt Pan turns an ordinary box of Halloween Funfetti cake mix into a haunted mansion (with the help of some sprinkles, gumdrops, and fondant), and is way more exciting than an endless influx of bite-sized Snickers bars. We know- it's not free like trick or treat candy is, and it's not exactly handed to you, but try to accept it as a part of growing up. Still feeling bitter? Be that person and hand out toothbrushes and sugar-free candy. Muahaha...

Hot In The Hive: Williams-Sonoma Sandwich Cookie Cake Pan

    image

I don't know what it is about summer, but I tend to do a lot of baking during the months between June and August. Maybe it's because friends are home from college and out of town visitors are making my home seem more like a bed & breakfast! Anyway, I love to entertain and I've even attempted a mini-pie business (sadly, it only lasted two weeks) so I'm always on the lookout for the latest and greatest. That's why I'm a regular visitor to the local Williams-Sonoma store. Can you believe that everyone in the store heard my audible gasp when I saw the Sandwich Cookie Cake Pan? Perfect for kids and grownups alike, two cakes can come together with a delicious buttercream frosting middle or even add ice cream! Williams-Sonoma even provides a recipe on their Web site. So forget making a boring salad or casserole to your next summer party. This cake will definitely be a crowd pleaser!

Cupcake Delivery And Cookie Delivery To Your Doorstep!

Mmm... cake. There's really no substitute, is there? Sure, we can quell ice cream cravings with fro yo until the cows come home, but when a hankering for a bite (or five) of fresh, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cake and ooey gooey frosting comes along, there's only one thing we can do: eat cake. Now stop drooling all over your keyboard and turn your attention to BuyCake.co.uk, the UK cupcake company that's managed to catch our attention from all the way across the pond! Polka dotted, candy-covered, daisy-adorned, or simply sweet, there's a cupcake for every occasion. We're pretty much smitten with the Old Skool Sweetie Cupcakes, luscious morsels adorned with the candies of your childhood. Owners Catherine and Michelle bake all cupcakes, cakes, and cookies to order using only the finest ingredients (free range eggs, Belgian chocolate, Nielsen Massey vanilla) and deliver them anywhere in the UK next day for maximum freshness. Skip the flowers and send a batch of their cupcakes instead for your next occasion- their pricing is certainly reasonable. Hot In The Hive: "Don Banana" Kitchen Box by Alessi

    image

Ok, let's be honest here. Are you still storing your dry goods like flour, sugar, coffee, or tea in the big bulky packages it came in? Whether it's a flimsy cardboard box with tape all over it to keep it from collapsing or big, bulky, and ugly plastic containers, it's no wonder why kitchen cupboards are such a mess. That's why I fell in love with Italian design team, Alessi and their "Don Banana" Kitchen Box! I don't know about you, but I'll certainly crack a smile every time I reach for my tea leaves or sugar in the morning. I think the box could also be a fun storage idea for candies and nuts (provided you and your guests eat them before they get stale). Or how about bath salts or cotton balls in the bathroom? The storage possibilities are endless!

Hot In The Hive: The Pac-Man Hot Head Oven Mitt

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Apr 13, 2009 6:20 AM PDT
My affinity for all things PAC-MAN is one I've cultivated for quite awhile now, from memories of holding the high score on the machine at the ice skating rink to the old school Namco plug and play system that I can now blame for a sore wrist... that red monster is SO MEAN. Oh, and I get the munchies a lot, but that could be from anything. (No, not that). So when I came across this PAC-MAN oven mitt, I just knew it was destined for my kitchen. The silicone pot holder and oven mitt features a no-slip grip-- in the form of the actual arcade maze embossed inside of the mouth. Brilliant! I'd scoop it up right now except #1, it's not available until later this month, and #2, I don't really bake. But other than that I can't think of any reason why I shouldn't have it!
