Lindsay, Shakira, And Mischa Glam It Up At The Whitney Gala

    image

The red carpet was certainly rolled out last Monday night at the annual Whitney Musuem Gala for its parade of high-profile attendees from across the film, fashion, and art industries. While guests like Shakira, Chanel Iman, and Alexa Chung discussed their own artistic talents (or lack thereof) over filet mignon appetizers, drooled over Gerard Butler, and listened to Jennifer Hudson's show-stopping mid-dinner performance, other gala-goers couldn't help but just people-watch. After all, Lindsay Lohan was quite a... vision in that daringly short gold dress. And Taylor Momsen's thigh-high slit complete with fishnet stockings was an interesting sight in the context of such a black-tie affair. Both were reportedly mistaken for the event's host, Donatella Versace -- which can either be perceived as somewhat of a compliment or... not so much. Watch the slideshow for some pictures of the gowns and glitz on the red carpet! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Have you been spending too much time sucked into the monotony of your work routine and need a vacation that will simultaneously provide relaxation and an in-your-face dose of artistic expression? If so, I've found the perfect place for you to kick back! Berlin's Arte Luise Kunsthotel is located within view of the Reichstag building and the Spree river, providing you with the prime location for a little culture and history lesson. The hotel itself, which dates back to 1825, is so imaginative in its design it hardly looks real, even after a few dozen blinks to convince yourself you're not hallucinating. Each of the hotel's 50 rooms has been decorated by a different renowned artist, featuring an array of original themes from Comic to Shoe Fetish, and seemingly transports you inside the psyche of the artist -- no matter how whimsical or twisted -- providing a getaway within a getaway just within the walls of your room! Don't let the establishment's old-fashion roots fool you though -- its modern amenities help provide the comforts of home while you enjoy the hotel's artistic decor and the city's rich historical significance. Check the slideshow for a glimpse of the hotel's unique rooms!

Miami Style Scene: Frida Kahlo's Fabulous Art and Fashion

Frida Kahlo was one of the most influential Mexican painters of the middle 20th century. At the ArtCenter in Miami Beach, delicious sangria and gourmet Mexican snacks were served by foodie Betsy Mullins as we stood in a packed room and listened to lecturer Armando Droulers speak about Frida's life of love, passion and pain. Frida's work is incredible, her paintings are mostly self portraits, and as she put it, "I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality." One of Frida's very notable characteristics was the way she looked, groomed and dressed. Never wanting to remove her facial hair and accentuating her eyebrows in her paintings, she's known for her folkloric Mexican Tehuana costume, her hair dressings, and her original jewelry, all which have served as inspiration to many designers. Check out my slideshow for Frida's fashion and work, and see how she has inspired so many of us.

Balloon animals and cartoon characters are fun childhood memories for most, but for artist Jeff Koons, they are monuments! The Pennsylvania-born painter and sculptor's larger than life sculptures are kitsch writ large. Koons' latest show, "Jeff Koons on the Roof" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, which opened last week, is this year's must-see exhibit in the Big Apple, and his public sculptures are permanent fixtures at the Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain and Papal Palace in Avignon, France. Click READ MORE for more about Koons and SEE SLIDESHOW for my favorite kooky Koons creations!
