Line To Watch: Finsk By Julia Lundsten

    image

When Manolo Blahnik uses words like "exquisite, "divine," and "perfect" to describe your shoe designs, you know you're on the up and up (and not just in terms of heel height). That's exactly where designer Julia Lundsten is going with her line Finsk. Launched in 2004, her collection of crazy designs and quirky, sculptural heels has her dubbed as the Eames of footwear. While attending London's Royal College of Art she won the prestigious Manolo Blahnik Award 2 years in a row. Her inspiration from architecture and furniture is visible in the details of her shoes. Her love of furniture design extends to her way of thinking too -- considering the heel and the sole as the chair's legs and the upper as the seat, her shoes always seem to cradle the foot perfectly. With an unconventional style, the pumps, ankle booties, and boots all feature heels hand-carved from sustainable hard woods from Brazil. If that doesn't get you walking tall, I don't know what will! Check out the slideshow to see some of her signature styles.

Mexico's La Purificadora Hotel Serves Up A Refreshing Place ...

Who would have ever envisioned that a colonial-era water purification plant in Pueblo, Mexico, could one day be transformed into a modern sanctuary? Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta had both the vision and the talent to transform the original 1884 structure into its current state, La Purificadora, a stylish 26-guest room architectural masterpiece and colonial oasis. When designing the hotel, Legorreta drew inspiration from the original structure's purpose by using "purity" as the guiding theme in his design. The 3-story open-air lobby of La Purificadora may be minimalistic in color (only black, white, and purple are used), but it's not without industrial-sized drama by means of a stone staircase that floats majestically down to the main entry below. All 26 of the guest rooms are filled with colonial influence, contemporary flavor, and spectacular views of the city. Tranquil water served as the inspiration for the rooftop terrace's 30-meter glass-sided lap pool, as well as the glass closets in guest rooms, and the glass balconies that can be found throughout the hotel. And what stylish new hotel can be complete without a trendy on-site restaurant? Well, La Purificadora's no exception. The hotel's ground floor restaurant serves up gourmet versions up regional Mexican specialties like mole-rubbed beef and conchinita pibil. So the next time that you're craving a getaway like you crave a tall and refreshing glass of water, consider paying a visit to La Purificadora. CRHEE Gives Body-Con Styling An Architectural Twist

What happens when a Princeton architecture grad turns to fashion? Perfectly tailored, strong and intelligent clothing that is classic and wearable with a twist. Christine Rhee started her line CRHEE with a desire to create something new and innovative, fusing practical with the unconventional. She succeeds with innovative shapes in a muted color palette. WWD raved that "if 007 were a woman she would go to former architect Christine Rhee's body-conscious suiting in her fierce-yet-feminine line CRHEE." In the fall "Isolator" collection, her architecture background is especially apparent in the 'Slowdive' dress with stunning cutouts that€™s anything but boring. My favorite? The color-blocked wool gabardine 'Pris' pant. They€™re a perfect union of traditional and unorthodox! Prices range from $200- $800 and the fall collection is available at crhee.com!
