LemonDrop Suggests You "Trick Or Chic" With Fashion-Inspired ...

Craving a Halloween costume that's not so much scary as it is stylish? Why not pay homage to an iconic fashion personality? From a ghoulish Karl Lagerfeld to a monstrous cat-wielding Kenley Collins, these get-ups are just right for fashionistas who are less into "boo" and more into "Goo ... cci." How about Anna Wintour? Between her pow-wow with David Letterman and the success of "The September Issue," it may just be the Year of the Icy British Editrix. Here's what you'll need:

    -elegant dress or skirt suit
    -bobbed wig with bangs
    -fabulous heels
    -devil's accessories
    -sunglasses
    -copy of Vogue
    -haughty attitude

You may not be able to snap your fingers and have a designer frock suddenly appear, but you can fake it. Simply throw on your finest skirt suit or dress (bearing in mind that Ms. Wintour does not do black), affix an inverted triangle Prada label you've cleverly made out of construction paper, stick some devil's horns atop your bobbed wig, and slap on some giant black shades. Extra points for carrying a copy of Vogue or having your giant Andre Leon Talley lookalike BFF hover behind you in a cape. Click over to Lemondrop for three more clever ideas!

If You Haven't Seen "The September Issue," Here's Why You Should

Anna Wintour. Just her name can cause successful designers and big-shots in the fashion industry to tremble slightly in their butter-soft Italian leather boots. The well-known, cold, and demanding character of Miranda Priestly from "The Devil Wears Prada" was said to have been based not so loosely around Anna Wintour. Of course, when they announced "The September Issue" was coming out, all fashionable females and style-savvy men were more than a little excited- a real look into the conception and making of, arguably, the world's most famous fashion magazine, often unofficially referred to as the Bible of Fashion Magazines? At first, you'd almost almost expect the documentary to showcase Anna barking orders, tearing apart people's hard work and making life in general miserable to all those around her, just because she can. While there are instances where she leans towards behaving much like her fictional movie counterpart, you get to see a surprisingly softer side of Anna that includes genuine smiles and sincere praises. You get a glimpse into her personal life with input from her daughter and candid comments about her family, revealing they don't take her role in fashion quite as seriously as many of us do. You get to see that her ruthless, no-nonsense attitude comes more from a need to be efficient in a hectic, ever-changing, fast-paced world and that, despite the fact that she may eliminate many seemingly great ideas and projects born from blood, sweat and tears, there is no malicious intent behind it and that she does indeed have a great eye for what makes an issue 'perfect.' Most importantly, you realize that, although she is aware of her status in the fashion industry, she truly appreciates those around her that have raw talent and help make Vogue what it is today, like long-time colleague and friend, Grace Coddington, and that she believes in new talent, like her help with promoting Thakoon. So if you consider yourself a fashionably knowledgeable individual, I recommend that you hurry to see this movie and let it open your eyes!

Runway Wrap-Up: Stylehive's Top 10 Looks From New York ...

Despite the mayhem that Fashion Week always brings upon us over here at the Hive, even from all the way across the country, we have to say we are a little sad to see it go. I mean, now what are we supposed to do? Sit around drooling until next spring when all of these gorgeous summery pieces finally hit the stores? In the meantime, we can take comfort in the fact that based on the designers' Spring/Summer collections, the forecast for next year is undoubtedly hot, hot, hot! Looking back on all of the runway parades we've covered in the past couple weeks, we can't help but notice the abundance of fun party frocks -- from Christian Siriano's tiered ruffles to Zac Posen's neon sheaths -- and the welcome resurgence of bright, cheerful hues (after all, what's more springy than color?) that seem to insist that high-impact shades are clearly going to be the new black! As for the late-night dance-floor hoppers, who can forget Whitney Port's designer debut with all of those slinky metallic numbers? And while the celebrity attendance record may have been abysmal (aside from the usual Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe sightings), I'm sure the starlets will still be rocking these runway looks on the red carpet come spring! Take a look at the slideshow to reminisce with us over the Fashion Week highlights!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Ralph Lauren

    image

This season, Ralph Lauren was back with the classically preppy looks we've come to expect from the designer (variations on the blazer, lust-worthy dresses), but included quite a few unexpectedly refreshing ones as well. I loved how many ensembles erred on the side of masculinity- for example, one was comprised of boyfriend jeans and a menswear-inspired shirt, then topped off with a blazer, beret, and chunky belt, only to be offset by a pair of glistening t-strap heels. Combined with natural-looking makeup and unfussy hair, each look was all the more believable. Quirky, tattered denim overalls were about as surprising to see as the head to toe denim look, but the "fresh from the farm" approach added a relaxed vibe to the typically put-together show. Crisp white layers were followed by sheer separates in cool blues, and a particularly striking iridescent floor-length shirt dress was just the thing to finish off a collection perfect for achieving that chic but not overly calculated country club look. See the slideshow for more from the Ralph Lauren runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week!

The Devil Has a Sense of Humor

    image
Ida Hsiang on Aug 31, 2009 5:23 AM PDT
Leave it to David Letterman to get Anna Wintour, the elusive editor in chief of Vogue, not only to appear on national television without her trademark sunglasses but also debut a trait no one thought she had: a sense of humor! While on the late-night show to promote her documentary "The September Issue," Anna confessed to Dave that she's aware of what the press says about her (including that she looks like an alien that escaped from District 9) and thinks that "The Devil Wears Prada" was pure fiction. This past Wednesday night, New York's Museum of Modern Art was abuzz with some of the world's most chic elite as they mingled at the NYC premiere of The September Issue. The film, which hits theaters on Friday, documents the inner workings of Anna Wintour and her Vogue team as they slave over the release of the hugely-anticipated annual Fall issue of the fashion bible. To celebrate the movie's release, style icons of Hollywood and the design industry alike graced the red carpet, and although it's normally their clothing that fights for the attention of the cameras, the designers themselves embraced the limelight in person to honor the occasion. Among some of the fashion favorites in attendance were Carolina Herrera (hand-in-hand with Oscar de la Renta), the always-polished Vera Wang, and Zac Posen, who didn't hesitate to throw a few "top model" poses in the paparazzi direction. Vote below on which designer you think most stylishly held up the fort for the fashion industry! Photo Credit: PR Photos
